i was wondering cuz slater said surfing was painful for him, for decades
harder turns = more pain
that may have been why he went to super tiny/loose boards
if hes surfing pain free now, maybe his volume will go up

he always said he wanted to do the qs but wouldnt until he thought he could compete in smaller waves. He’s never tried bc he doesn’t think he’ll make it.

he gave this comp a whirl before and bombed out early. And even today, if you didnt see the difference between him and Ethan you weren’t paying attention.

None of the above should be taken as a knock on kai. Aside from JJF perhaps, he’s the best overall surfer there is. His big wave surfing is perhaps the best of all time. He’s just not a CT level competitor in CT level waves.

Kai Lenny has been surfing the regional qualifiers here which include Tahiti. I think he wants to get onto the Challenger series so that’s the first step but he hasn’t cracked the top 5 or 6 year end to move up. Duu has too much going on and just had a kid. Doubt he has time to just focus on high performance small wave surfing.
