I apologize for my earlier comment. I was having a stressful morning. But I don't get that mentality. Could just say that your son was taken out by a kook and you'd have everyone's sympathy. There's an endless supply of donkeys at any ski resort you visit, especially at Mammoth. What they are riding when they come flying in out of control and mow you down is mostly irrelevant.

This is 100% correct.
Worst etiquette I have experienced has been at Deer Valley. That is a resort where almost every ticket holder doesn't realize/understand that they are the problem. Mammoth is for sure in the top five and the douche factor is pretty evenly split. For the record, I ride both skis and snowboard and am sometimes (most times) a kook. We all have our moments.

I’m sorry your son got hurt, full stop.

but even with everyone riding/skiiing in perfect order and situational awareness/ bad sh!t can happen on the mountain.

i (violently) dislocated my shoulder in late 23, merely falling forward onto my palms, moving at a slow-walking pace. Not another soul in sight, let alone involved in the fall.

fortunately I have an unhealthy affection for pain and adrenaline so I swung my arm against the grain and popped it back in. Holy moly is THAT a rush to remember. My shrink sees this is a sign of poor mental health. One of the few times I disagreed with him :)

Funny that there’s still a ski vs snowboard thing
I’d never expect an anti snowboard fight from surfers
I learned how to ski first. Thing is Skateboarding is closer to Surfing than Snowboarding. Theres a grace to not being nailed down to your board. A certain walking on water if you will. An ability to adapt and use momentum you cant locked in.

Apology accepted. I think one should do both. One of my best friends is one of the best Snowboarder Coaches on the mountain. I wont deny theres a plethora of idiot skiers going to fast as well. Hell Ive been hit and almost hit by a drunken fuck. It seems to me however that the Hockey Shirt wearing lunkhead party yahoo culture is more prevalent in boarders. That being said the volume of point it Green Army Men at Mammoth being dangerous is 3 to 1. Now the one that nailed my kid(Who was unhurt thanks for asking) was on his ass sliding from the top. My kid is 10. If he got hit by a 10 year old I wouldn't be so pissed. Did the guy stop? Say "Sorry"? Nope. Coach should have caught him and pulled his pass.

how about this?

there's always been outta control dipshits mucking up the hill

only difference between now and 30 years ago is there are more people on the hill and most of the young'ns choose the board over the skis - but the percentage of kooks is probably about the same as it ever was

I say that Mammoth is L.A.

It's brings out every type of person who happens to be a skier or snowboarder.

Got to be very cautious on Cornice Bowl because it's the 405 freeway off the top and everyone wants to got to the top of Mammoth, right!? Sad to say it's almost safer to ski any other un off the top (when it's crowded) because any other run will be far less crowded. I usually avoid the mess by just handling the chunder to skiers / boarders left and stay off the chalk of the groomer.

In related news, this looked positive for the coming week in the Sierras.

Cornice used to be a bowl. Never groomed. You had a vertical lip of about five feet that little bumpy goat trails traversed until you made it into the bowl full of moguls. Less navigable by a green army man. You used to have to earn your turns. Then they chopped off the top so now you just roll into a groomer slope. The Mountains perspective on grooming has certainly changed since the advent of boarding. .

Lack of courtesy and poor situational awareness knows no distinctions. Mountain-boozing certainly doesn’t discriminate either

I was riding in Vermont 2 days ago. Just landed on St Lucia (sitting on tarmac waiting for another plane to leave the only gate). Sugar beach awaits.

Doesnt help that Cornice Bowl is heavily shaded at this time of the season...

Nah but I’ll sacrifice my non existent anonymity (lady’s approval secured as well. She knows this place and knows all about forums in general. She’s in digital media sales and most of her clients refuse to have their ads appear in discussion forums lol. Can’t imagine why)
