I'd be fine with that, especially if they would keep them available to the public in some way. However, as much as the Gubmint does some of the worst and best things with the Nparks, I would have a hard time seeing the grantees of the parks handling them in a preservable way. Can you imagine? yosemite, zion, yellowstone, etc. all given back to who, native americans?, and just shutting them down? or worse,(better?) Casinos, gas stations, hotels..... As much as I think its the right thing, it kinda isn't at this point...i don't know....just rambling....
Don't feed the trolls...

Umm

it doesn’t matter what Our white supremacist system/culture wants.

The whole point of this is returning the lands to their proper possessors.

Not white guys like you telling them what to do with it.
Um, You asked what people thought? Of course the black and white by the book no frills answer is to just return the lands no matter what and I get that. I also get that to make something like that happen, a lot
of things would have to change.
Your hypotheticals are just that. Mine are mine.
How would you know I’m white? Cause I surf??
Lol, a white guy trying to tell another white guy to stop being a white guy....

how hot was it out there?
We arrived in Mesa Verde on Monday (first day of the heat wave). It was 100-102. From there, we drove south through Petrified Forest where it was 106. The Painted Desert section in the north was closed, so we only spent a few hours exploring the southern half of the park and visitor's center. We spent the last couple of days in Sedona where it was 117...beautiful area but couldn't stand the heat. Never been so happy to return home to the June gloom!

We spent a lot of our time in Sedona up in the valley hiking and finding places like this to cool off...

Glacier NP SCAM ALERT!!!

Glacier NP has basically instituted a de facto reservation system to enter the park. This management process seems to have locals and visitors alike pissed.

Basically, unless you plan your trip and buy a ticket to the Going to the Sun Road months in advance, do not bother making the trip up here (at least to Glacier) because more than likely you will not get in.

Here's how it works:

Prospective visitors are told by the NPS "A park pass gets you into the park for 7 days. If you want visit the Going to the Sun Road you need to also buy a $2 ticket or enter the park before 6AM or after 5PM.""

What they don't tell you is the park itself is the Going to the Sun Road and it's practically impossible to get a ticket.

Here's the method of securing the ticket:
Entry tickets are available 60 days in advance on a rolling daily window for arrivals beginning on May 28th. Beginning May 26th, 2021, tickets will also available two days in advance at 8 a.m. MT on a rolling daily window. Entry tickets are good for 7 consecutive days including the reserved day of arrival. Only one GTSR entry ticket is required per vehicle/motorcycle.

So basically on this rolling daily window there's around 350 tickets available on recreation.gov starting @ 8AM and they last for about 1.5 minutes before selling out. During this 1.5 minute window you're trying to buy a ticket and are getting a constant error message.

And you end up not getting a ticket. Every fvcking day. As I've now heard from locals (who find it extremely difficult to visit the park) and visitors alike.

Most likely you're competing with bots and families of 5 (who all get on various internet devices at the same time for a better chance at a ticket).

Of course, you can try to enter the park earlier than 6 AM, but they're regulating that too because people are arriving at 4/5AM to line up for entry, so even then you may not make it in. Obviously this "you might get in" thing becomes impractical for those staying near the southern area of Flathead Lake or Missoula, etc.

Pretty much sucks for many people who stayed in West Glacier or Kalispell @ $300-$600+ /night and never get in. Not me, but I feel for 'em.

So to anyone planning to visit, don't bother risking it! Too much money and time wasted, and with the smoke blowing up from Idaho and Washington it's going to limit your alternative activities in the surrounding areas. The other day I was 14 miles in on some NFS road @ 7000 feet and everything around me was tan brown haze and I could barely make out the valley floor through the drop off/trees, temps were pretty warm even through the haze as the sun was out. I'm sweating pretty decent in the open areas and I've got 4 miles hiking then a half mile scramble ahead of me...FVVK that, too CREEPED OUT. BAILED!

BTW, to the NPS - here's a novel idea.

Instead of allowing 7 days of entry to Glacier NP, cut it down to 1 to 3 days. This will easily limit the number of people.

The NPS knows how scammy/deceptive this whole thing too - they even have the rangers telling people half truths like "You can enter the park at Two Medicine" as part of a give-them-(false)hope spiel.

did you know that Recreation.gov is not actually a government-run website

instead it is run by a private entity that takes a cut off the top and which does not contribute
proceeds back in to the localities which it acts as the online registration system of record

let that sink in for a minute
