one of my best friends is not a super big guy but he is super strong, a total gym rat. every time he bottom turns it looks like he's going for a squat PR. he got this good wave keel fish that he loved and he blew the box out like 3x during one trip down south. we got so sick of repairing that thing with my limited supplies out in the desert. we finally ran glass under the box and two layers over top and it held for the rest of the trip but I think it did eventually start to crack again. this is why I mostly avoid good wave twins anymore.
Damn I hope that doesn't happen to me. I had an absolute blast on a twin keel in lined up forehand point surf this summer. Overall I'd probably rather have a five box drivey roundtail for getting after the lip than a keel fish, but I could see a Twin Pin or something like that being mental.

Baja sounds mental.

Guess I'm both a bigger guy (205) and regular gym goer  the tail has an extra patch, and I'm not sure that's the issue as the box failed rather than the glassing.
I'll have a new box put in and if it fails again I'll glass the fins on. Timing does suck a bit, I got another 10 days of the trip left (I'm on the maldives atm) and started to really gel with the board (cc wolverine). First world problems though haha

I’ve blown out the twin and quad boxes on FCS2 but both times it was the glass not the FCS plastic bit that broke. That was on PU/PE. Never had issue with multiple GMM2s in XTR using MR twin FCS2 almost exclusively.
Futures probably worse. I have had multiple blown twins with PU/PE. No futures issues with varial or DA build twins tho.
At your size on twins, that can be a lotta torque. I’d reinforce the boxes if you go custom rather than OTR.

I think most of the time it’s the foam underneath failing to support the load, not the glass over the top
That's interesting! Despite being glassed heavier the board has loads of pressure dings already, so I already had the theory that the blank sucks

When you repair them it's pretty easy to see what's happening. There are different densities of foam, to keep boards light. There are trade offs of this. I'm guilty of using light foam and delt this the consequences.I just got a 2# eps from Millennium and was shocked by how much more dense it was than Marko
They way the box is installed can make a big difference too

It's a torque issue I think. The fins are much larger than the original intended use (thrusters). There's no change on install methods for standard boards either.

I've broken at least one fin box from turning on every twinny I've had. It doesn't matter if they're futures or FCS2. I know the AUS distributor of Futures personally and brought it up with him during a recent surf together. He said it's a common.

Get these pivot rears and pair them with your fav thruster fronts

this ended up being a big improvement on what I had in the board. thanks

cool clip, but the hose is further away and at a different angle on the fin box example vs the glass on. might be a slight contributor to the difference.
Reminds me of a few other videos I watched on the internet......... :monkey:

So if you get a custom, have the glasser thicken the glass around the fin boxes
