That is a bad comparison.

People aren't shooting themselves up with a virus for pleasure.

Deaths due to over dose don't have the same health care resource cost as people dying in the ICU from covid.

These features make the comparison meaningless.

That fact that everyone is going to get the virus is a big deal.

You should be able to waive getting a shot by agreeing not to seek health care if you don't get the shot.

Then we can party like it's 1999 again.

That is what I call freedom, baby!

Pfizer's Q2 earnings are out. Why don't you work up some calculations on vaccine profitability? Also, BioNTech came up with the vaccine, Pfizer got it over the regulatory finish line as a partner at the last minute.

Again, revenue is not profit.

Source.

And looks like there are some people complaining about costs of the vaccine.

I don't like that our medical system is a for profit enterprise, but at the same time understand that motivating people to work for free generally involves a different type of society that we have and enjoy in the US of A. While I am trying to change some aspects of the $ side of the medical system am also not wanting to screw up the enjoyable society side. It is an endless balancing act.

From link:
"A former senior FDA leader told Endpoints that they’re departing because they’re frustrated that CDC and their ACIP committee are involved in decisions that they think should be up to the FDA. The former FDAer also said he’s heard they’re upset with CBER director Peter Marks for not insisting that those decisions should be kept inside FDA. What finally did it for them was the White House getting ahead of FDA on booster shots."

So, office politics?

Fentanyl related. Looks like it is happening everywhere (click me).

Its as tragic as it is ironic. Could the FDA, big pharma, and doctors have created the fentanyl epidemic if we were not 70 years into an endlessly failed experiment with prohibition? Hard to tell. Are we ever going to learn our lesson and let people decide what they will put into their own bodies?

LOL Not. Even. Close.

Not only are we failing to quit with the "thou shalt not" bullshit, but we are accelerating into the brave new world of mandating that certain drugs be used. Gonna be fun!

so funny how many granola chicks i run into that are organic this and organic that but dangle a baggy of coke in front of their faces and the tune switches very quickly
I'm looking again at sulfuric acid.

Still H2SO4.

I don't see any carbon there. Organic test = fail.

Drinking gasoline is fair game though.

WOW? REALLY?!? I'm talking about 2021, which is AFTER the vaccines were released.

Stop the low-effort copying and pasting from Yahoo Finance. I'll dig into the number since you can't.

Revenue:

Expenses:
1630533612065.png

R&D expenses went up very little in comparison to revenue growth in vaccines. Most of their expense growth was cost of sales:
Second-quarter 2021 Cost of Sales(2) as a percentage of revenues increased 18.6 percentage points compared with the prior-year quarter. The drivers for the increase include, among other things:

  • an increase of approximately 15 percentage points associated with sales of BNT162b2(1), which includes a charge for the 50% gross profit split with BioNTech and applicable royalty expenses;
  • unfavorable changes in product mix, reflecting higher sales of lower margin products including revenues from the Pfizer CentreOne operation, partially offset by the favorable impact of higher alliance revenues; and
  • unfavorable foreign exchange impacts.
I'm seeing roughly $11 billion revenue growth in six months due to the vaccine vs. 8 billion in expense growth to sell - most of which is a profit split with BioNTech and royalties. For the amount of R&D Pfizer invested, they made out really well. Like I said, BioNTech did most of the work and Pfizer helped them get it over the regulatory line. This is a lot like NovaVax' partnership with Sanofi for their EUA targeted in Q4.

An extra $6 billion a year ain't bad on a vaccine they didn't invent. Looks like 15% YoY profit growth just on the vaccine.

Take a look at this graph. I see 5 waves, do you? The first 2 waves were small. The 3rd wave was a monster with 3 lips. The 4th wave was small. Now the US is beginning the 5th monster wave. The 5th wave of the set is growing as fast as the 3rd wave did. The 3rd wave lasted about 3 months. It looks like the 5th wave, which appeared the beginning of July, may last about that long. We may suffer until the end of Sept, judging by the 3rd wave.

Please politely force those antivax a$$holes to get vaccinated, by using restrictions on their behavior and increasing their insurance premiums.

Maybe viagra sales skyrocketed with everyone being home? And older folks isolating for months on end?

1 It wasn't a case of "can't", more like a case of "didn't". Try to keep it low effort here, but alas, now I feel like I need to apply some more thought.

2 It was from Google, not Yahoo.

3 Posting results from one quarter is excellent snapshot in time, provides closest indication of how things are now. I enjoy looking at longer time periods and expect this bias got in my way of seeing what you wanted to look at.

4 From your link to the corporate investment page, $7.8 B revenue for this last quarter CV-19 vaccine.

1630599870020.png

5 They grossed $19.0 B total , so $ 7.8 B is 41% of that is due to vaccine sales.
1630600698724.png

6 And when we look at earnings per share, we see corresponding increase due to profits. Made $1.07 cents per share for 2nd quarter 2021, and $0.78 per share for for 2nd quarter 2020, so reasonable to think the vaccine sales made up significant part of the $0.29 difference.
1630601222413.png

7 And historical revenue shows is steady until the CV-19 vaccine started rolling out.

1630601443942.png

8 And you'd still have been better off buying a S & P 500 index unless you managed to time things right or played the options properly

9 And all this proves what exactly?

The half better-encompasses the vaccine rollout.

8 And you'd still have been better off buying a S & P 500 index unless you managed to time things right or played the options properly
But Pfizer executives, VPs, and many others are compensated in company stock. You don't seem like you have any experience in tech.

9 And all this proves what exactly?
That you have a hard time connecting dots.
