if you think businesses make decisions in the best interests of their customers and employees you definitely aren't in management at your organization.Maybe small business but any with hundreds or thousands or employees no.
How many management meetings this year have I been told things about exposures and other COVID related incidents we were prohibited from telling anyone else to protect the brand. The dumber the general public and employees is the better off we are and if something does come out blame someone or something else. Its will always be someone else fault and if caught settle under the table out of the public eye.

I tend to listen our Lt Gov who appears sensible and is on the front lines as a practicing doctor on the weekends but it appears no one else seems to care what happens here so we go from single digits to triple digits in the span of a month. 32/120 reported case here this week were small children which goes against the mainstream BS some of them ended up hospitalized. Vast community spread means it's hard to know where you can go safely or who you can associate with, even family you don't live with.

I find it hilarious that when the pandemic was a financially induced by wallstreet and greedy market manipulators, everyone was so mad so demanding for change and punishment. None of this "oh well" talk. The financial virus of 2008-2009 was no different than what's happening now to the economy there's no one driving the boat for this one. Everyone in the canoe paddling in different and opposite direction while we sink.

"for the better good" was a rational used for most of the atrocities humankind conducted throughout its history.
Most of your post seems to be written in anger but I agree business organizations make shady decisions.

That doesn't negate the fact life must move on.

Life not moving on will cause far greater problems down the road.

Many of the policy decisions you in fact seem to be endorsing will result in dramatically widening the gap between rich and poor.

I'd hate to be an at risk or lower income kid of elementary age right now...especially on the younger side because they're basically being flushed down the toilet by keeping schools closed. Schools won't open this year and they probably won't open next year either thanks to fear-based (not science-based) policy decisions. Not to mention the kids of all ages who aren't logging in to online classes and are getting a half-assed education. Any idea what the long term ramifications of this will be for MILLIONS of kids?

Did I mention since kids have been kept home child porn and sexual abuse have been skyrocketing?

Here is the perfect example of fear mongering:

Start with a false headline stating the camp took all precautions.
Opens with a fear mongering lead.
Then gives the actual facts.

Most people, of course, will only read the headline and then the first few sentences and their confirmation bias will cum hard.

The policy decisions are coming from upper middle/upper class individuals who appear to be making decisions based on fear of the virus, fear of legal repercussions, fear of the general public, fear of constituents, etc.
I've only been privy to the thinking behind a single major covid policy decision, so my observations are clearly anecdotal; but, for whatever its worth, the decision was made by an upper/middle class person and was based on an over abundance of caution (kissing cousin to fear) with respect to how public perception could impact brand reputation.

So I kind of hate the decision, but had I been the one calling the shot....

I would have done exactly the same thing.

More and more I think about how The Brand - whatever it is - is at odds with The Family. When I get into a jam, I don't call The Brand for help. I call my family, friends and neighbors. Yet we're expected to care what The Brand wants and thinks as if it's some sort of hivemind I need to submit to.

people want everything to go back to how it was
but that's not going to happen at least for years
they are estimating up to 30%-40% of the service industry jobs are not coming back
10%-15% of the tourism dependent work force here are going to have to find something else to do

Companies are going to "right size" to match the pace of a slowly recovering economy
That's why Hawaiian Air just announced potentially furloughing 2000 employees
Other large companies are doing the same all over the country.

Any business dependent on packed face to face service (like bars) are going to have to re-invent themselves.
They aren't going to be able to afford the cost of shutting down and cleaning every time an employee tests positive and having groups of employees quarantine as well as reaching out to exposed customers.
As uncontrolled community spread starts to create this mess businesses will choose to shut down til things "cool down" versus having to go through the cycle of shutdown, clean and quarantine every week. You can see this happening on the mainland.

They are currently posting in the news names of all the businesses here where an employee has tested positive which definitely is a public relations nightmare in re-establishing customer trust. The same will happen to schools having to go through this cycle of self cleaning after positive employees.

I don't think people pushing for the reopening have factored in those added costs and public relations issues.
And I actually think "brands" will start attacking each other about who's safe and who's not to gain an advantage on a diminished customer base.
"Brands" can be states, countries, cities, and school districts as well as regular businesses. That was the state of Hawaii's little dark secret before it all fell apart. I'm sure all the tourist dependent locations were thinking the same way. Most screwed the pooch like Hawaii and Vegas by giving in too early to public pressure and now having to back peddle.

As soon as Hawaiian Air announced the furloughs, United announced stepping up flights to Hawaii.
Its dog eat dog.
Wallstreet doesn't care whether joe blow gets their job back as long as there's a backstop from the Fed to keep their investments afloat as that's all that matters to them. Everyone who's been monitoring their 401K or investment portfolio and smiling recently have been part of that.

Things are only going to get worse as this virus runs it's course not just through the US but the rest of the not as developed world where we need to get resources to make the stuff we're addicted to especially our electronics and mobile devices.

The most insightful comment I heard from the virtual leadership conference we put on this week, was a local speaker saying the one simple thing everyone could do to make a difference in their communities was to say Fk Amazon and just buy local and buy off the shelf no matter if it is more expensive. Communities need to support their own communities instead of sending their money offshore. I thought that was a pretty brave comment from a high exec at a major institution here. Made sense.
Amazon just posted its highest earning ever

That gap was already so huge! This event will just speed up the process that was already working it's magic. Hopefully this event will shine a brighter light on the inequality that was already there, very doubtful though.

I agree. Amazon is an awful monopoly. Practically, how do we do this? First WalMart and now Amazon were putting mom and pop stores out of business for the last 2-3 decades. Now the mom and pop stores aren't even allowed to open and operate.

The Feds could start breaking up monopolies again. That would help. But local stores have to be open for us to shop there.

Regarding casa's from the inside view of hospital situation in at least one area of SD, it also seems Tri-City Hospital in NCSD has decided not to publicly post bed capacities/ICU used by COVID-19 patients in recent weeks.

Early on, say March/April/May, they had an info page for that stuff. Now, it's nowhere to be found?

But, we do have these charts that look pretty steady for bed/ICU capacities the last month or so.....View attachment 95550View attachment 95551

May I suggest y'all spend some time looking into virus proofs....i.e. is the virus real...as in a proven pathogen....and is it really contagious as we are told? Talking about numbers of cases and hospitalizations is not addressing root cause.....and there's a good deal of material supporting the theory that viruses are a result....not a cause of illness. Yes....really....

And you wonder why many folks are calling BS on this "pandemic"?
1. PCR test is biased toward false positives.....thus inflated reported test results numbers....i.e. cases.
2. Some states now counting contacts around a positive test result as positive....thus inflated reported cases....many labs reporting 100% positives......no test swabs coming back as positive....
3. Many positive test results in people who are not or who have not been sick.
4. More you test the more cases you can report....period.
5. Many deaths attributed to and counted as Covid-19 are deaths WITH positive test results....not FROM the illness.
6. Repeat #5 again.....and think about the % of the death count that would have died anyway....then subtract that number form the current death count.....does this number even support a pandemic label?
7. Now go look at the reported deaths from other causes....like Tuberculosis....and wonder why we're not freaking out over that.
8. Rockefeller Foundation's "Lockstep" paper from 2010....
9. Fauci predicting the future in 2017 with his "there's going to be a surprise outbreak in the next (Trump) admin".
10. October 2019 pandemic exercise "Event 201"....
11. World Economic Forum pushing "The Great Reset"...taking advantage of the turmoil? Check out their "Strategic Intelligence" site....some planning for the future going on?
12. UN Agenda 21......
13. Nobody has ever satisfied Koch's Postulates (proven it a true pathogen) with a virus....yet some have claimed to do so....
14. Authorities predicting the future....second wave gonna be a bad one....long dark winter ahead....B & M Gates saying we'll pay attention to the next one.....hmmmm? Wat da Fook?

Shoots....just look around.....everybody dying?
Nope.

So if it's not a pathogenic virus....what's making people sick?
Could it be the result of a toxic environment....much like lung cancer is the result of smoking toxic ciggs....
Wuhan and N Italy are grossly polluted...air pollution.....etc.
New wireless frequencies / technology being rolled out right now....still in progress....5Gee....effects on your cellular heath?
Lower vitamin D in general from staying inside.....or overuse of sunscreen?
Just a bad flu year....a natural process and cycle of detoxing?

The great Pasteur vs. Bechamp debate...is it the germ or the terrain?
Would you agree that people who don't take care of their health are generally more prone to sickness?
So what's the best thing you could do to not get sick?
Do everything you can to improve your health....or wear a mask (that does squat) and stay indoors hiding under your bed in fear? ...and what are "the authorities" telling us to do?

Snap out of it...turn off the TV and look into these things yourself.....
And BTW...."Fook the New Normal".....

It's not coming from our scientific community. It's coming from the press. Now run along and lick their hand.
I ain't licking anybody's hand. I receive, daily, three newspapers (I know, I know, but I'm old school), the NY Times, the Wall Street Journal, and the Honolulu Star Advertiser. You, however, seem to lap up online media like a thirsty dog, and based on the articles you post, you are none too discerning about your sources of information.

What's your point? If only they would have taken proper precautions everything would have been safe and great at the camp? No precautions would stop kids, doing kid things at camp, from spreading this virus. The mistake was opening the camp, not failing to enforce Covid protocols. It would have happened regardless, so who cares about the headline.
