A Snowy Owl has been hanging around the Sooke area on southern Vancouver Island so many photogs have been seeking it out.
Here's a couple of shots of it.
Looks almost like one of those African cats with the big ears at first glance.

Great shot showing the markings really well.

You'd think with all the cold and snow we're enjoying right now the local bears would be hibernating, but they aren't.
Last night this Mom bear and her two cubs were tripping around the neighborhood not far from where I live.
Look in middle of photo to see them.

Think this was night before last night, actually..

About 20 minutes ago, was looking out the rear window and suddenly see a hawk go for a kill.

It was unsuccessful.

After rooting around the shrubs, flew to the powerline to recharge.

Grabbed the pocket camera, shot through the glass on high zoom and...

This is what it was looking at the base of the plum tree:

Backyard hawk seemed a little shy with a human staring at it through the window, so I quit looking and hoped for actual hawk strike while posting this.

PS
Don't forget to comment on the niece's art project from, what, 10-12 yrs ago.

Eagles are strengthening their pair bonding these days and this photographer got this neat series of these two.
Here they are flying in close formation and heading for their favorite hang-out spot.

Here they are preparing to touch down.

West of Sooke one can find much more wildlife, many more surf breaks and generally wilder country.
A local woman photographer likes this creek as it has a good population of Otters, a number of which can be seen here.

This gang was having a great time and were in and out of the water, breaking off into smaller play groups and generally having a heckuva time enjoying life. Here are a couple just goofing around.

Here's a poser.

She posted some neat video of the whole gang but I don't know how to get it here from Facebook.

Here is an old photo by the late Dave Smuntan of what the mouth of this creek sometimes looks like.
