Just a FYI

There was an X-class flare yesterday aimed at the Earth.

CME should hit the magnetosphere tomorrow.

Predicted aurora as far south as southern Oregon, which could mean that with sufficient altitude (and darkness) in California and looking north, you could see it. Decent wide/fast lens and long exposure (or stacked multiple shorter exposures) will bring make it pop.

More here.

Camp Fire / Camp Stove Pressure Cooker ~ FYI ~ Home Stove as well

A bit too heavy for backpacking (8 lbs.) BUT, for car camping ... road trips
I ordered the "M", 9 qt / 8.5 liter. 4 to 6 person... just because. Smaller / larger models available

Wow, Afghani pressure cookers? Who knew? But I do like my Jetboil for car camping plus we keep one in the big fire truck with some cup o' noodles etc. and coffee for those overnight fires.

Elevation + Exertion + tin of sardines + stale tortillas +, limp onions + garlic almonds + sprinkling of lemon energy drink powder = meal of the gods!

Ok, would have preferred the dehydrated beef stroganoff if asked to choose.

It was good times when Patagonia Provisions had a 30%-40% off coupon code, and then using the 20% coupon code on your "first" purchase with a new email address combined the two for 50-60% off. No mas but I stocked up... Then there was that expensive energy drink powder 2 for one deal.

But I'd also rather have that stroganoff.

The reality for me is lugging the stroganoff/freeze dried food all trip, waking up and slapping dry oatmeal into my mouf and washing it down with the powdered grape or lemon energy drink while hiking & dreaming of greasy fast food joint in the mountains, and then eating the tinned food at the gas station while filling up the tank on the drive home. Tho I think above in this thread is the vacuum sealed almond butter homemade stuff that is quick/easy/tasty/energy and maybe a game changer for me.( Of all things below the mussels are A+)

I'm heading to the southern end of the Arizona Trail for a couple of weeks. Anybody been there?
very popular winter trail

are you confident in your water sources?

do you have to pull from cow tanks?

I've done the northern 400 miles of the AZT and never had to use cow tank water but I have the resources to just rent a truck and drive out to various trailheads to cache water if needed.
that's the secret to four season hiking, IMO

snow camping doesn't really do it for me, but pre-caching water and doing a loop or an out and back in the desert is fkn radical
