if theres any kind of sizable surf Im thinking someone is going to get seriuosly injured. Even for the elite of the elite in surfing the place is very serious wave. Throw some people out there who have won a few contests back home and thats about it and theres gonna be some serious consiquences IMO.
Who on the roster fits into the ”just won a few contests at home” category?

Here‘a the men’s lineup:

Surfer mag article on the Olympics said this.

"The exclusive rights to Olympic broadcasting are held by NBC. So, that’s where surfing will air. The competition window spans 10 days, from July 27th to August 4th, and the event will run over four days during the best conditions that fall within that timeframe."

I mentioned exactly this in another thread.
There are going to be a bunch of competitors that have no business paddling out at Chopes at any size.
If there is any swell of any kind they will probably cancel.
They should take it to Papara or some other wuss spot over on the NW side.

Pretty sure they need two days to complete the surfing contest. They have from July 27 to August 10 or 11.

If the first couple days are forecasted to be small it might give the surfers a chance to be a part of the opening ceremony in Paris and fly back to Tahiti. The last opening ceremony in Tokyo was not very celebratory and no family in attendance because of Covid.

The roster is posted. Aside from a young German or two, who isn’t fit for the comp?
