Funnest dawn patrol I’ve had in ages. Just me and my buddy down the block. no other surfers for a half mile in either direction. Not perfect by any means. But mirror glass. Some fun stomach high sets, nice and shallow with the first light low tide. didn’t get a ton of waves but two of them were legit little pig dog barrels made cleanly. One of those was a barrel whilst traversing the outside of the jetty, from east to west, which always adds a little spice to the view, even on small days

that’s the end of my hijack, I’m actually really looking forward to how this thread goes. Be safe Chocki and have a blast and thank you for live blogging a cross country road trip. That’s epic.

you may be totally nuts but that’s part of the fun. America is a truly miraculous place

Stocked you had a good surf. I cant wait to make some turns on snow. And America is one the greatest countries on earth despite its faults and despite all the ahole drivers I love all the people I meet in my travels.

Dude who pumped my gas in NJ last night cracked up when I said “did anyone try and pump their own gas tonight? I bet somebody tried to pump their own gas” and was super stocked when I slipped him a fiver and said “you look cold, go get a cup o coffee on me”.

And speaking of Waze I’m old school so I speed the old fashioned way, either with a fast moving blocker way up ahead running interference and/or with a sacrificial lamb behind me. On the way here I was speeding and thought I’d drawn the attention of LEO so I floored it and immediately excited the highway lol

Well played. Spontaneous generosity is one of the best things you can do for your mental health and just to have a good time.

Mark of the beast is everywhere bro.

Scored some dank preloaded chillums. The skunk #1 was excellent and the chillums will come handy when I can score some Tina again.

Since this is a driving thread I give you my most epic driving story. Happened a month? or so go.

Had just left S Fork to go back over the pass (one of the gnarliest mtn passes in the nation, C W McCall wrote a song about it) when I get a biker on my tail.

I check out his ride in the mirror, big Harley (dynaglide?) with a mean looking fairing and led headlight. Looks like he means business. We proceed at decent clip until the chainup, at which point I snug up to the two vehIckes in front so he can pass all of us as easily as possible. As he blows by us at 75+ mph I check out his cut. I didn’t recognize the club logo but it was for sure outlaw and the bottom rocker said Arizona meaning they claimed they entire state.

As he passes us he takes his left hand off the bars and makes the come follow me motion, it’s time to play.

He ends up doing 75-80+ mph the whole way up the fucking mtn leaning the bike way over into every turn. I kept up until I couldn’t take the intensity of it anymore and backed off. Every turn I expected to find him splattered against the side of the mtn or skid marks where he tried to brake before going off the edge into the void but nope I get to town and he’s parked in front of the Mexican joint on main street. It was one of if not the most impressive thing I’ve ever witnessed.

For reference

Keep safe Choki!

:bowdown::waving::shaka:
Thanks bro because it sure seems everyone else on the roads wants to die. Wtf is up with tailgating someone at 80mph, that’s approx 115 ft per second???

Got some fresh rubber on the rims and I completed my first brake job before leaving upgrading the front pads and rotors to EBC.

That and Jesus is my Copilot

Gonna try and make it halfway to Memphis TN td.

I was born a travelin' man and my feets do burn the ground. I don't care for fancy music if your shoes can't shuffle around. I got a hundred women or more and there's no place I call home. The only time I'm satisfied is when I'm on the road

Women, whiskey and miles of travelin'
Is all I understand

Welcome to wild and wonderful West Virginia, some pretty chill driving so far and lots of nice foliage. Feeling a lot more comfortable now that there are truck stops and I can purchase fireworks again. Crossing the Potomac was dank.

got to decide rn if I want to continue through WV/Kentucky or VA/TN?

No chances yet for any sweet pics of scenery but I did take one of my rig for you all

Driving through WV is pretty dank. Lots of sweeping curves up and over the mtns (2800’). Nice roads, speed limit 70 mph, but you do have to pay attention all the time.
Banged out a total of 466 mi for the day.

And Wingate hotels where have you been all my life??? Just finished a very good Margarita at the bar, and gonna find some grub then pass out. Seems to be the working man’s choice, lotta work trucks in the parking lot etc. There were some Slav tower climbers at the bar.

Room couldn’t be any cleaner, surprisingly quiet and the word on the streets is the showers rock.

if you're hungry when you roll through Memphis i *strongly* recommend stopping at Central BBQ (the downtown location) and getting the jerked wings. so delicious. now i know once you get in there you're going to be tempted to fvck up and order the BBQ, but you're not going to do that, m'kay? you're getting the JERKED WINGS! ok. then take the short stroll over to Bluff City Coffee. the coffee is excellent and the pastries are fucking deadly. brer rabbit says, "whatever you do, don't order the carrot cake". get the coffee to go and walk a couple blocks to Butler Park where you can grab a bench and watch the river barges going up and down the mississippi. note that there is an optional 3 block detour to The Tinderbox if you want to pick up a cigar to puff while you watch the barge traffic.

super jealous of the road trip, man. have fun!

That sounds dank. I love bbq/jerk chicken etc. Depends if I blow through or not?

Am stopped at a rest area rn where I had my first adventure of this leg. Met a hobo and his rad dog and was putting last nights pizza in the cooler and about to roll when I decided I bet that grimy train hopper would love food. So I bring it back to him and we’re talking about The Freight Train Riders of America (gang of murderous hobos) and I’m telling him about the classic hobo/train hopper movie Emperor Of The North when some old man walks up and is a total dick about telling the kid to move his dog so he can walk by. In a heart beat the kid is in his face yelling I don’t tolerate no disrespect mister and I’ll beat your ass etc. Nothing came of it and I’d like to think I helped defuse the situation

You see some crazy stuff on the road, weird too.

when driving through some of the flattest grassland I’ve ever seen in New Mexico a tire that was on fire rolled down the highway the opposite direction of me as I was driving. I hadn’t seen a car in quite awhile and slowed down expecting a wreck. Nothing. No ditches to obscure and the grass wasn’t long enough to hide someone off the road. I reported it but didn’t know how to describe the situation, the 911 operator was pretty confused as well.

On time, coming back from Yosemite with the niece and nephew, actually witnessed a rear left wheel come off a Dodge Neon...we were about 50 meters back at highway speeds.

As it sparks flew from the hub as the car fishtailed, we went wide around the Neon, and the the wheel went on at pretty much the same speed.

We slowed and watched this wheel go and go. Finally crossed the west bound lane (as the highway curves), cross the median, into the east bound lane, then over and gone down a long grass and oak tree covered hill. Surprised at least one car pretty well based on the amount of tire smoke as it skidded.

The kids were amazed and wanted us to go track down the wheel and bring it back to the Neon. They were unhappy when I said no.

I want to take the rest of 2022 off and drive slowy cross country along the southern route(s)
If you are referring to Algarve/Andalusia, that sounds pretty baller.

Otherwise, let me spare you I-10.

1. It's fun but onshore
2. Tallahassee sucks
3. Florabama
4. Shitty Casinos
5. Homeless people and dudes dressed like me holding plastic fishbowl drinks and vomiting on themselves amongst literal and figurative trash
6. "Hi Subway. I'm with the Houston Police Department. I'm not going to actually admit that one of our officers is going to buy a hood ornament on a cruise to Cancun/Cozumel, which we'll then tell you was all we found of your stolen car in Nuevo Laredo, but what the hey."
7. This is your captain speaking. It's a lovely 45 and raining at LaGuardia. We'll be circling for an hour and then making an emergency landing in Islip before we run out of fuel, then we'll keep you all on board for 8 hours while we wait for more fuel to rock up.
