Most young people worry that the world is totally screwed, according to new survey

Climate change stressing you out? Government inaction about it triggering your anxiety? According to a new global study, more than 60 percent of young people aged 16 to 25 are "very worried" or "extremely worried" about the climate and almost half said that their eco-anxiety impacts their daily lives. The survey by Bath University and collaborating institutions included responses from 10,000 young people in 10 countries. From the BBC News:

The lead author, Caroline Hickman from Bath University, told BBC News: "This shows eco-anxiety is not just for environmental destruction alone, but inextricably linked to government inaction on climate change. The young feel abandoned and betrayed by governments.
"We're not just measuring how they feel, but what they think. Four out of 10 are hesitant to have children."…
Young people were asked their views on the following statements:
* People have failed to care for the planet: 83% agreed globally, UK 80%
* The future is frightening: 75%, UK 72%
* Governments are failing young people: 65%, UK 65%
* Governments can be trusted: 31%, UK 28%

More of a measure of how much fear porn we are exposed to than an actual state of affairs. We live in the safest and most prosperous times in human history.

Hmm, so climate change and political instability are all media creations:shrug:
No. The world has always had problems. World War 2 was pretty rough too.

It's the exaggeration and constant fear porn that messes with people. Most people in industrialized countries will live most of their lives without climate change directly affecting them in a substantially negative way.

Yes, the media lives off of hype and people are addicted to it but that does not change that these young people feel powerless to these concerns while they watch our leaders flounder.

Well, the pandemic has already directly affected them. Fires and the drought in the West are observable and have nothing to do with media creation. Old people telling them these things are nothingburgers in the grand scheme of things is very reassuring.
:crazy2:

The youth have been inundated with fear porn and indoctrinated since birth

No wonder they have this pessimistic outlook

Yes, and I felt the same way 20 years ago shortly after 9/11 and the PNAC era that followed. The only thing that’s different now is the fact that I have a computer in my pocket to show me all the horrible things that I should be worried about and social media where those concerns are echoed. Otherwise life is still great and those things I worried about never had any real direct effect on me.

Whether these are a result of human caused climate change remains to be seen.

Yes, see my 9/11/PNAC comment above.

Needs more aliens. Some anal probing. Nothing like some solid anal probing to get your mind off the weather.

I do miss the whole “get under your desk and curl up in a ball because THE RUSSIANS ARE GOING TO NUKE US!” thing. Good times.

In the '50s and '60s, total nuclear anihilation was a real fear.

THIS!!!!

Social media is poison and the virtual world is not reflective of the real world.

Easily accessible porn has ruined youth sex drives

Watch the porn
Destroy the family
Castrate the males
Eat the bugs
Well, at least you have the porn watching before the castration. Otherwise, that would take all the fun out of it.
