XTR has always been far superior to EPS and PU.

The issue with xtr has been the limited number of shapers and the fact that Javier controls the entire construction process, including glassing and sanding. He doesn’t sell the blanks. So you need to ride and die with XTR when ordering.

It would be great to see Rusty and Tomo back with XTR.

Interesting no mention of Variol as a comparison (guess they arent offering any free blanks to Lex
luther). My last XTr dented all over the place, just like varrial, but at least I know with varial little I can bust out the hairdryer for a resale dent refresh.
My Varials dented faster than a piñata at a fat kid’s birthday party.

I've left the Revo in a hot car more times than I should have. In fact, this reminded me and I just took it out again. No sign of yellowing.
My Revo is holding up good too. I had to replace the tail pad because the kicker broke off, and noticed a little yellowing, but nothing crazy. I've had it a year and surfed the crap out of it and even took it to El Salvador and its holding up like a champ. I've very impressed with the iBolic tech.

I just looked it up here and I've had the Revo for a bit over a year. Didn't seem that long. I've surfed it a lot because it's so versatile and drivey, does well on less than ideal waves, which is what I tend to get unfortunatly.

After a year the cymatic I had looked like a target after a pissing contest.

He doesn’t sell the blanks.
For whatever reason, he sells the blanks and licenses the vent tech to Arakawa. EA is the only shaper I've seen offering their boards. He had his own construction he was doing with it a few years ago "XO" but I haven't seen them pushing it lately. It was pretty expensive and probably not super popular.

I'm with you though. I'd love to find a shaper I could actually work with that offered XTR as an option. I tried that with EA and the machine they needed to use to cut the XTR blanks was out of comission lol :foreheadslap:. I'm pretty torn between yoloing the latest big brand rip stick in XTR carbon and working with a shaper I can talk to.

I think FCD also uses XPS foam but I don't think it's from Javis shop? Not sure on that.

Lost and CI are both very good XTR options. Longtime Lost and CI shapers finish the XTR blank on site. Lost through XTR is an easier and safer custom order than any other option. Easier and safer to order a custom a custom CI through CI but you get the durability of XTR through Javier.

Not sure how the other companies work.

For sure, and I do have an XTR CI on order and I'm not at all opposed to ordering another one

But I'm still not going to get Britt Merrick on the phone to discuss the rocker differences between the 2.pro and the 2happy and the fever and the... nor am I going to get him to make adjustments to the file for the waves I surf, etc.

Rusty is an interesting option if he's working with them again, though none of shortboards have ever really grabbed my attention. When I ordered my Blackbird we exchanged a couple emails and he made a custom file for me. Not quite the hour on zoom I got with EA but he feels like an outlier in terms of legendaryness vs personal attention.

I just think it would be cool if you get XTR from basically any shaper like you can with EPS, but it's probably just too finicky to work with for that to be practical.

From my understanding shapers are just not fond of working with it since it is different for them. Given relatively small volume, it’s reasonable that they just don’t care to learn, either.

Just saw that Rusty and Chilli are both working with XTR. Nice!
Also just saw Rusty is working with Torq

You think XTR will blow up to the point they wont have the $100 off sales?!?

That was a good vid. I think that gimp style is just the way you surf pools as everything happens quick. XPS foam is primarily used to insulate homes. There is no magic pixie dust there. Javier had (still has?) an exclusive with Dow Chemical for the white XPS foam in a thickness suitable for surfbords. Most all other XPS foam is blue in color. Patagonia is XPS and those blanks are not blue. Many home builders (think swaylocks) would buy sheets of the blue XPS foam to construct boards. You can get it at Home Depot. I fell off with XTR after two negative experiences. Both times involved delamination, but this was a long time ago, i think it was 6C construction. Javier is a good dude and rips the harbor on the regular.

I like the idea of getting a CI in XTR or Varial if they feel close to poly in flex. Most of the poly’s CI’s I’ve had have been good to magic but it’s depressing watching them disintegrate under your feet in a matter of months. Like meeting a 10 but she’s moving in a few months.

As for the posts above about Varial. I’m surprised pressure dents are even a consideration. As long as the board does’nt delam, yellow, or lose its spring I could care less about pressure dings.
