I had my first session on my Surf Prescriptions Single fin, it was about waist to chest high and slightly mushy beach break, but a lot of good sections. It may be too soon to give a review of the board but here's what I noticed.
At first riding the board almost felt too squirrely (I had been riding my green board which probably outweighs it by 5 to 10 lbs, and is about 1" wider, 0.5" thicker with much less rocker and a wide, beaked nose) but I was able to adjust to it after a few waves. I could tell the SP was glassed much lighter, not only by the well-formed pressure dents in the deck, but by the fact that I could throw the board around with little effort, the thing really came alive in good sections. It also felt like it paddled easier than my green board, even though the green machine has a bit more volume. I guess "Doc" put the foam in all the right places.
The board seems to hold well, even in steep sections where I thought it might spin out. I'm sure part of that is because the tail is fairly narrow, but I'm wondering how it would handle with the 8" norm flex.
I'd have to say that the board was a fairly easy transition to make, I think it handles more like a modern thruster than some old school stick, so I think it's a board that a person whom primarily rode thrustered shortboards, could get used to.
Honestly I didn't really notice how well the board handled until I hopped back on my green board yesterday. It took me quite a few waves to get used to it again so I think that says something about the SP. It seriously felt like going from a shortboard to a longboard.
I'd still really like to try out one of the CI single fins too...I wonder if Pinliner is thinking about selling? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />
