I'd expect the PJ Pro to be closer to the SD2 than the Ripper.

I had an SD2 and it was great in average fun waves with good projection but not the best in very steep/tight stuff. My Rad Ripper feels like it has more tail flip and is a snappier ride. Rad Ripper in some ways reminds me of the OG Rocket. Paddles right in (it's really good at that), and has the hallmarks of tail flip. Does pretty well if you throw it up kinda late/off. Also has that feeling of being able to decrease the radius on a turn, or pivot easily.

I'd expect the Ripper comp to be a Squashet or V3. Maybe Baby Buggy?

absolutely loving mine, riding a 5’10 30.75l lightspeed (I’m 6’2” about 190-200). Only thing I’ve noticed a little off is sometimes it catches a rail on round house cuttys. Never tried a pj pro but it goes really similar to my 5’11 Uber driver xl. Board is super fast and goes good in knee-shoulder. Riding it with Jordy large fins. I bought a happy everyday at the same time as this board but a little bigger as it was PU, I like the happy but keep going back to the ripper because it’s so easy to surf.
Thanks for the feedback. I ended up ordering a PJ Pro after getting some more info on the differences between the two. Very similar boars, but the PJP is slightly wider (stock vs stock dims) throughout and has less tail rocker. This should suit the waves I want to ride it in more so than the Ripper.

Was it Solomon that you were able to increase/decrease air pressure with a bike pump to change flex pattern?
I'm assuming you're talking about the hydroflex construction. My second board ever was one of their earlier iterations without the pump thing. Fucking hideous board, but super strong.

Those salomon s core boards were awesome. The real first ones, not the shltty china ones that came after.

Let us know what you think. I received my 5'11 light speed Ripper and having difficulty connecting with it. Used AM2 larges (175lbs) last week. Waves were chest-head high with a little mush and it seemed sluggish.

I'm gonna switch the fins out to JJ's and a quad set soon and see if that makes a difference.

I love the PJ Pro. I got a stock 5’8 ( I’m 5’10/160). I wanted a dd shortboard for the mostly sloppy/mushy FL beach break I deal with on the regular. Something with some built in speed and still surfs HP from stomach high to head high. It fits the bill perfectly. I’ve only ridden it as a thruster with Futures R8s, but that setup felt perfect from day one. Might throw some quads in it if I ever get bored with that setup, but for now it’s working really well.

Also, so you can see wave range/type, here's a video screen grab from last week on the PJP. Not the best turn, but the boar was going very well in these smaller conditions.

How does it compare to the PJHP?

To me the Ripper looks like it'd duplicate or at least overlap quite a bit with my Baby Buggy. That and somehow my used dish sponge glassed with tissue paper Rad Ripper is somehow still not buckled or busted.

There's definitely some overlap between the 2. Mainly in the waist-stomach range for me. I easily could have ridden the HP on the day above, but I grabbed the Pro because it's the newest boar in the quiver. They both feel very similar as far as built in speed and everything that comes with lower tail rocker, but the Pro feels more like a shortboard (as you would expect). My plan was always to use the HP as a true groveler (Knee-stomach) and the Pro for stomach-head.

I've never ridden the Ripper, but have held one in my size (5'8). It feels a little more tuned and pulled in than the Pro. It definitely reminds of my old Baby Buggy, circa 2016-2017, a board that I loved, although that board was about 2 liters less than what I'm riding these days.

Looks like one of his old models.
Mini something. Mini driver?
Twas a good design. Is there a wing on that one?
Mini driver was the board that sparked my interest in shortboards after only riding chubby boards for ages. Pretty atypical that lost hasn't re-released that board. OG Mini Driver Redux '13 or something.....
No wing, the squash tail one has a bit of a hip, not sure if the thumb tail will affect that though.

Is the Rap Ripper supposed to be more user friendly compared the The Ripper?

If so, I can see why I'm struggling. I'm probably a middle of the row intermediate surfer.

I can tell it on the Red Beauty and the OG Flyer for sure.

I can't fathom it wouldn't be. The Rad Ripper paddles into waves insane for a board with a pointy nose. The Ripper is a Kolohe Andino-driven HP refinement of it, so more rocker, little narrower...

I would expect some surfers in flat-faced surf to find the Ripper lacks drive/projection, but if you're in something with a little curve or a little peaky/wedgey-ness to it, I expect it'd still be fairly easy to surf.
