Shattered glass in the lip. Is it an optical illusion or does it really throw out 2 X the wave height?

It is really frustrating for someone like me with slight to moderate photo skills after a life time of taking pictures even now that I can afford to buy some pretty good equipment.

It's sort of like guitars. My folks got me my first guitar around 1955-56. No matter how many nice guitars I've been able to play or collect, my skills keep me in the background or rhythm section.

The good news? Checking out posts by Sponge and some of the other cats in the erBB who can truly stoke the 'experience' through their mastery of their equipment.

Bottom turn, unknown, OTW, 5/3/13. Rainos had a surf camp with a bunch of groms from around the nation. Here's one of them bottom turning just under me on a tiny wave. Just good fu.

About how long do ou usually spend in the water when there is decent surf, decent surfers/boarder's in the water, good conditions for shooting, etc.?

Although I know you've been filming for a few decades (I used to follow you in the alt.surfing BB in the 80s) do you find yourself exhausted or pretty tired after a session? Your quads must be like iron! J

Typically out about 2-3 hours though I've been out as long as six.

I'm always tired afterwards! But that is part of the point--to get a decent workout.

Due to genetics I have pretty thick thighs and calves. Although that doesn't mean they are strong, they seem to help for endurance.

Below Sea Level, 5/3/13, OTW. Small day with superclear water just begged for experimentation. On this shot, I sunk the housing underwater and pushed it towards shore as a wave passed me by. Got lucky with the descending lip as seen by the fishies.

Panics Perspective, Point Panic, 5/18/13. The early morning view can be mesmerizing, even in Town.

The overall composition of this one is just fantastic. The clouds, the sun, the bending reflection and shadow from the cloud, and with a bodysurfer to boot. Badass!

Deep Blue, unknown, Backdoor, 1/25/13. I've never been much of a Backdoor photographer. So sketchy out there, plus shooting with my left hand is on my "backhand." But the visuals out there are so mesmerizing.

Neal, you're killing it! One of the best surf shots I've seen in a long time.
