GG-approved rearward twin placements solved this “twins are tricky to sarf backside” years ago.
:foreheadslap:
there’s a 476 page thread about it… rhymes with “schmalbum”

Speaking of fishes, who makes your favorite and why? I rode an old mabile twin keel a lonnng time ago and hated it. Didnt jive with it at all. However, I had a long love affair with one if his twinzer fish. Thats the board that got me into twinzers. I will say, it was a bitch to surf backside though. Probably the archer...

Looking at getting a trad SD fish al la christenson, mitsven, michael miller etc... to try again, but part of me thinks I should go with something more "modern".

What didn't you like about the mabile.

My limited experience so far:

Hanel and Stamps: Modernized. Forgiving but still like a bar of soap. Single foiled keels.

Mitsven: More drivey, better hold, more stabile. Not as spunky or fast off teh taekeoff as the others. Double foiled fins with more tradition outline.

I prefer modern.

I outgrew my 5'6 for paddling around but have SBD's 5'8 mitsven DH keel fish (see baors in avatar pic). Expect i will always have one of these in my quiver. Had some memorable days in local reefs CH-OH. Big smooth carves, holds like a dream, backside no problem. Mitsven 5'9 winged quad fish is also a favorite and can kinda do it all.
Haven't tried a CC but heard only good things

edit: on the modern front, I hate to say it, but album lightbender can do all the TKF lines, plus more. I ride with upright twins, but can throw in modern keels for more drawn out lines. Could ride this in KH-HH waves and it just goes.
Stamps has a number of fishes and could really dial in what you want.

single foil right?
I have a 5’8 CC fish that’s my “if in doubt, pull this out” board. Fins are flat on the inside. Single concave (fairly deep) all the way out the back. Had my doubts about single concave/twin fin combo but those doubts went away as soon as I stood up on it.

Another sort of interesting aspect, if you put a straight edge across the bottom you’ll see the outer couple inches by the rails are perfectly flat.
