Couldn’t find what I was looking for in the midlength mega thread. Was looking at a midlenght for when it’s large but lumpy in north county San Diego. I primarily ride short boards, and was looking for a mid that felt shortboard enough. I’ve heard chili mid strength is good, love machine FM, smooth operator, el barron, any suggestions or favorites?

generally ride a gremlins when groveling or a wildcat or pyzalien 2 when it’s good.

Try a Ryan Sakal Sabre, I've tried different mids, this one is hands down the best IMHO

I have a 6’9 sakal Sabre if you want to try it. Im in ncsd. I dont really ride it much anymore but it was a favorite in the quiver for a long time. DM me if u want. I’d sell it for super cheap also as ive banged it up pretty good.

If you’re looking for a board that scales up well in length but still feels like a shortboard, and don’t mind going custom, the Stamps FlareUp is another good option as well. Mine’s 6’2, so not quite into midlength territory, but it’s done pretty well in this run of swell in the one of the slopey NCSD reefs I frequent.

Ridden a 6'4 36L Harley ingleby mid6 'mini' for the last 6 months, excellent when it's bigger and has some water movement to deal with.
