You think Jocko Willink and those sorts of people are neo-Stoics?
Well. They both think discipline is freedom.

I would say the right balance between discipline and openness are freedom.

But both Jocko and the stoics probably wouldn't disagree with that notion.

It's like screwing a girl and getting her pregnant and getting mad that you have to take her to get an aboriton.
an aboriton, is that the new brand of vibrator that’s made out of weapons grade titanium?

if you hadda bought her the arboriton first,
you wouldn’t have this big mess.

As Rome collapsed people became increasingly cynical and Epicureanism and Stoicism emerged as responses. Marcus Aurelius was a neo-Stoic when things were getting really bad/falling apart.

There are a lot of young men searching for a philosophy and motivation, hence Wilink and Jordan Peterson.

You the balance between the Dionysian and the Appolonian.

I don't get "the young men being disenfranchised" trope going now.

When I graduated high school in '79 I was totally lost and I had to find my way.

I'm stupid and lazy and I figured it out. It took a while.

It's always been hard to be a man.

Sack up.. and be a responsible human. That is being a man. I agree.

Everything else we are seeing now is just chafe and actually just sad.

I'm also stupid and lazy but I figured it out and took a path to survive and hopefully prosper. Which I did.

I feel very sorry and concerned for the youth of today. (lazy af little entitled kids that won't make it on their own for long)

Most of them that I have had conversations with simply don't get the gravity of life in general and their own responsibility to take care of themselves once Mom and Dad don't take care of their every problem and need.

It's the text book I made the kids by this semester.

I'm going to make little Stoics out of those little fvckers.
For what class?

seems like an interesting concept that I’ve heard of but never really learned about
is there a reason i associate stoicism with game of thrones?

I started meditating with Tom Carroll on his instagram page (he does live meditations) and I gave up the weed. It has me feeling much better.

Ive been working the whole time but I still cant get past what is behind all of this mess. There are actual check points coming into NY. I think its time to move out of here.

Freshman Comp

I have to use some kind of text to please my overlords.

This book is only 7 dollars so the kids get a good deal and those are some fun ideas to play with for an 18 year old.

It's the opposite of asserting dominance by playing that victim that is all the rage now.

In a nutshell the stoics were saying you need to train to be strong.

I agree.

Check it out.

Jordan Peterson is not really who I'm looking to for philosophy and motivation.
If he's what I find, I hope I am a casting director searching for a Kermit.

Apparently he went to Russia to get off happy pills or some sh!t, got put into a medically-induced coma, went to Serbia to recover from it, got the Rona, then got pneumonia.

It sounded like he was going to recover from what I read, but kind of a weird turn there.

Still, a shitload of people have an accident -> got hooked on that sweet pharma good good -> disaster arc.

Mulitvariate

I always go back to the nervous system. It's spares resources in the pursuit of safety. And it abhors what it perceives to be high energy expenditure activity with a low payoff.

Our current society is triggering resource sparing tactics in our boys.

I think it's always been hard to find one's way in the world.
