Ok @Kento you’re having the same experience I had up there. The first thing to realize is that this is ackshually happening and you are not alone but most people up there have their heads in the sand and will attack you if you if you mention the problems. The cops can’t do much because the voters vote for this element to be in their city. The best thing to do is what you did - glare at him and yell at him to get out of there. If he pulls over and starts to get out of his car, don’t wait for him to pull a gun - make a sandwich out of his head with the door as he starts to exit then call your lawyer. Don’t talk to the cops.

Update: knew he had to be in neighborhood based on his approach. Streetview + other research, yeah, I know who he is and where he lives. Run by his house all the time - knew I knew the car.

He's not on Megan's Law database.

Talked about it again with my wife, were we possible seeing something different? Was he coincidentally swerving because he was looking at his phone? Answer is no. We both saw him clocking our kids, this go down, had 100% reached immediate conclusion independently at time, and our initial instincts are correct.

But now what? Should we report this? Guy is a high-roller for area.

Just be aware going forward? Accompany the kids at all times in neighborhood?
Report him to the cops as a prowler. Go by his house when he’s outside and glare at him. Tell him you’ve reported him to the cops and to stay away from your kids.

With these sorts of people, you have to think of yourself as a python - every time he lets out air you increase the pressure. See if he’s a renter or an owner - you can use your realtor to figure this out. If he’s a renter, you can gradually increase pressure until he finds somewhere else to go. Another tool is to expose him on NextDoor. Report the incident exactly as you did.

Not sure exactly what you would be reporting, given that he didn't do anything illegal. Although it could be good to put him the sheriff radar

Again, you’re reporting a prowler which is deliberately vague. He could be out on parole or have an arrest warrant in which case the information helps the cops locate him and put him back where he belongs.

They're owners; I have access to basic assessor's info.

Agree that I don't really have anything concrete to report. He didn't get out of the car, didn't even roll down the window. At the same time, 100% obvious what he was up to.

My wife reported it on Nextdoor, just with description of car. One of our neighbors has a young son so definitely want to let them know along with a couple of the more gossipy neighbors.

Pisses me off. It's like having your sanctuary violated.

Well, it was definitely a violation of boundaries. Good people respect boundaries; bad people don’t.

Do predators usually hunt in their own neighborhoods?
Maybe think of it this way - the rate of child kidnapping by a stranger in the USA is insanely low, a tiny fraction of 0%.of all kidnappings.

And pedos tend to operate from a position where they are family or a role where they have direct access to kids. Teachers, coaches, youth groups, etc.

That's why stranger danger is kinda bullshit.

It's the people your kids know that you have to watch out for.

You and the wife are going through a stressful life period so your amygdala is hyperalert. It's primal purpose is to be vigilant for predators and default mode is better safe than sorry.

So while maybe this guy is a kidsnatcher he doesn't fit the typical profile.

Perhaps this can ease your worries a bit. Or not.

On a related note I heard the other day that a thing all modern pedos seem to have in common is a love for anime.:toilet:

Truth to the stress and I very much hear you about the usual profiles.

At the same time, we were hidden from view but could see through the trees from not far away and no question what we saw. The guy slowed down and pulled in tight to the driveway and was eyeballing them big time. WTF was he doing? We picked up pace around corner to catch up to kids as everything about it was suspicious, at which point he saw us and did this weird charade as he sped away.

I admit it seems illogical due to how brazen it would be.

There is also an alarmingly large population of fuckups in this area.

Casa is right in the general case but not in this specific case given the unusual behavior that both you and your wife noticed as well as the context of the neighborhood (“lots of fuckups”).

I had a friend who was a cop in <redacted> up there. He wasted a black man who was parked and passed out but reached for his gun laying on the passenger seat when they knocked on his window. The press portrayed him as a young rapper who dindu nuffin/had his whole life ahead of him. They never mentioned his prior convictions for child trafficking. It’s definitely a thing.

Hmm Kento , being old and very protective of my children you need to spook him . Next walk bring a bat with ya all and use it as a walking cough cough wailing stick. The old proverb , walk softly but carry a big stick has some merit in this situation .
