82, 75 and 60cm masts serve me well!

I thought the 60 wouldn't get used much, but this summer it's been my go to!

I fouled yesterday by <redacted> using the 45 cm Axis. I saw a friend in the lineup and showed him my foulboar and he looked at me like I'd transitioned gender. This is a lot harder than surfing, but I think I'm up and to the right on this.

I like the 45 cm mast but my tibias are too long - I have to be careful not to whack them into the back of the front foil which as you know is quite painful.

Does anyone here use an electric screwdriver to assemble their foils?

If you use aluminum mast/fuse. Be careful with the speed of electric tools. Could lead to seizing up. Plenty of people do. I never have. My brother has had more seized screws than I can count on one hand and he does. I've only ever had one way back in the beginning.

A good t-handle tool is quite fast.

since I have an aluminum mast and fuselage do I needs to be breaking it all down every session despite having tefgel?

I'm assuming the hardware is going to corrode period as tefgel does not prevent corrosion.

Tefgel is pretty amazing. After making that post, I went to my one aluminum fuse that I haven't touched in 3 months. Got the screws right out. I soaked them overnight and will reapply tefgel and put it back together today and probably forget for another 3 months. I used to do it once a month. Hard to say how often is needed.

Really tough, bumpy conditions today.

Bailing during a taco the wing tip scraped over the area of my femoral artery.

If I hadn't been wearing a wetsuit there's a good chance I wouldn't be here right now.

I think the tefgel isn't so much for the salt water corrosion but to prevent galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals such as stainless steel, Titanium, and 6061 or 5052.

I've thought a lot about this. I don't think foiling is ever going to blow up for this and a lot of other reasons (cost, difficulty).

Foiling won't ever blow up because surfer's are the worst and won't let foil's use the waves they're not using.

The sales pitch of "foiling opens up all these waves" is a lie. Foiling is surfing, end of story. You have a much wider sweet spot on the wave and the "pocket" is massive. So it's easier in it's own way. But, if I can't foil Topanga because people yell at me. Then I'll just wait for the wind to come up and those annoying surfers go away and I have the time of my life.

Plus kelp. Kelp is miserable on a foil.

You need a breaking section to get up on the small prone boards because you're transitioning between planing to foiling, but you don't on a DW board.

Lol at anyone in Topanga trying to create order. That was lost decades ago.

I understand. I have a SUP, which explains why I haven't proned but one time in the past 6 months. It's not the same though. Foiling is surfing. I like surfing. I don't like "snowboard carves" out on the shoulder.

That is why DW is so popular though. You can ride waves for as long as your legs can hold out. Which can be anywhere from 1 minute on foil to 8 hours on foil. No annoying surfers out there either.

Yeah, when the industry says, "Foiling opens up all these waves," I think they mean, "Foiling opens up all these (longboarding) waves (to higher performance surfing)" which is what you see in all the prone foil promo videos. However, it closes all the high performance waves - no one is going to foil at Pipe or any other high performance wave.

SoCal has a lot of low-performance waves that become high performance sometimes and some logging spots that would be better on foil if the loggers can accept it. The idea that Topanga Canyon "surfers" can't handle it is hilarious though. LA - what a hole.

I've been wingfoiling a few years now with my son. We have stretch of coast on this little Caribbean island that we live on that gets EPIC! Tradeswell galore and it is super fun. When its just my son and I out there, literally in our backyard, I have to pinch myself because its really almost like a fairytale. No others have joined us on this run except for one time some intermediate foilers joined us and they were kind of shell shocked at the end of the session and haven't joined since. It gets intense when its 8-10, NE winds @ 20knts and tradeswell and long period swell mixed together. But so freaking fun!

I got a Kalama Barracuda downwind board recently to master that type of foiling. Haven't done too much prone foiling but have the setup and will do more when things line up right for that.

This is the the run I'm talking about and we live a stone's throw from this coast so it literally feels like our little backyard playground. My wife drops us off at the River and its about a 5-6mi downwind run. Can do it in an hour or less or can take our time and make it last longer. Sometimes we get dropped off further up the coast for longer runs. Any erbber's that want to check it out, let me know!

You're in the Caribbean, correct? When I develop some competency at this, I will definitely take you up on this. I've never been. Don't worry, I will pay for a hotel and not expect to eat your food or drink your beer. Depending on how this batch of hard seltzer and the previous batch of ginger beer turned out, I may bring some.
