Thanks @gbg I’ll be doing a lot of at home PT so specific stretches are helpful. Doc gave me a prescription and I started last week but got hit with COVID, so gonna cancel all my appointments this week. Don’t want to wait and sit on my ass.
This one stretch changed my life. I do alot more dynamic movements than static stretching. Especially hip and spine. I've found so many good people to follow on onstagram with videos. Yogawithkatherine, and jamesmoorewellness both good. Once you search on IG, you will start seeing different people to watch.

Wow, only a few hours later, here I am with worse back pain than I’ve had since I read the fucking book about 15 or 20 years ago
even though I don’t believe reading a book can cure back pain, since it worked for 15 or 20 years, maybe ill read it again

My back is so fucked right now
I’m going to check the library or local book store today
I’ve got some muscle relaxers but haven’t taken them since it’s all in my stupid fucking brain

Out of curiosity what is your back pain like?

It’s a tightness that makes it really hard for me to bend
And any movement can make my back muscles kind of seize up or contract.

Putting on pants was difficult
And I’m not bothering with socks

kind of hard to explain, but that’s kind of it

Yeah sounds similar to what I had. Did you ever go to a doc? Mine said minor arthritis and prescribed some meds and PT.

Lots of years ago I got checked. Ive gotten pain killers and muscle relaxers. I dont remember any diagnosis. Just “these things happen to guys your age” and that was over 20 years go

I’m glad your back muscles are seizing up. No, wait, I meant to say, I’m sorry this is happening to you.

Joking aside, sounds like when I first “injured” my back. It took me a half hour to get my wetsuit off. Did you do something that triggered it? My trigger was a three day barrel fest.

Sucks. It’s the “acute“ phase Of “non specific back pain.” My advice (my only qualification is having gone through the same/similar thing ) )is don’t hesitate using meds to take the edge off right now. Even the dreaded opioids. I forgot which one they gave me. Tramadol. Then high dose of NSAIDS. The point of the meds is to get you moving. Don’t take them and lay in bed.

I think you know the drill- movement, exercise, strength training.

I don’t read the book but go through that 60 page discussion…

Stretching is always going to be your best friend.. I grew up racing bmx, mtn bikes, cars, lifting etc. so I know a lot about stiff and sore backs..
What really works for me is the big aerobic medicine balls.. have it inflated kind medium-ish. When you sit on it slowly roll back/forward etc. The idea here is that ball is continuously putting pressure on your muscles and will help the movement to be “even tension”…make sense? give that a try
** also try KT strips. They work real good. Stretch them over the area that’s stiff and it allows more blood flow. They work pretty good

Ive got a massage gun that seems to temporarily help alot
Might as well start popping pills so I might be able to move around normally
Even if this is all caused by not addressing anger

Substitute any body part for ankle. This is spot on.

I love that bit
I hate that bit

I just went for a walk while listening to the book on audible

I’m finding it hilariously specific to what I’m experiencing

Been struggling lately with this. Very tight and sharp pains when it’s bad. Right now I’m associating it with doing alot of driving for work as I am constantly traveling for it. No injuries but I have a physical job (less so than what I used to) and very active on my free time.

has anyone had luck with going straight to physical therapy or is it see a specialist first kind of deal?

Sciatica or slipping disc. Both are caused by "piriformis syndrome", i.e. inflammation and swelling of the piriformis hip muscle, trapping the sciatic nerves against the sciatic foramen surround.

Put a tennis ball in your favorite easy chair under where your hip joint hurts. Roll around on it for five minutes Do this twice a day. You will see relief within a week, then you are cured. You're welcome.

Backpainadvice is another IG page that I like. I put in alot of time. Get a good yoga mat and yoga block to support your head while you are on your back. I make coffee in the morning and right to the mat. Every day.

"Slipped Disc" does not necessarily cause pain-

.

Piriformis?

Good call on using the IG algorithm
Use this guy. He debunks a lot of BS... and there is a lot of BS on IG and the interwebs. he's very critical of his own profession (chiropractor).

I believe he is affiliated with these guys. All science based, protocols backed up with cynical clinical studies. Founded by two MDs. There's a good archive of articles. Not everyone's cup of tea because they are very "strength" focused.
