I think the connection is that Lymes was thought to be in your head, but wasnt
so just because something is thought to be totally in one’s head, doesn’t mean it is

sad that something so simple needs an explanation
get a friggen meme going and change the subject to communism

Who brought up Lyme disease?

Oh right, nobody.

So what are you saying here? Lyme is real so therefore long COVID is real?

Theres no connection between Lyme and COVID. Lyme comes from ticks. We don’t have it on the west coast because of the lizards.

Ticks are just the delivery vehicle. The disease is caused by a spirochete bacteria living in the ticks.

COVID comes from a virus.

Both bacteria and viruses are known to cause chronic illness.

I can't believe I just had to type that.

This picture by photographer Bruce Chrisner of a spot I won't name is perhaps the most impressive shot from Fiona. Fiona was classic EC overhype with bad winds.

Jenks?

The place isn't exactly a secret.

I didn’t know people thought Lyme was fake. I have a few family members that had it (east coast people).

I was on it to quit smoking
it worked great

but I had a very specific schedule to wean off of it.
stopping suddenly can cause real issues, like psychotic episodes according to my doctor.
i think there were posters here who reported family members who had some bad reactions, and likely weren’t being really careful about not missing doses

my daughter talked about using it to quit smoking. I know her well enough to know there’d be a good chance she wouldnt be compliant, and I pleaded with her to not go on it
she didnt
and she quit smoking anyway

just saying, im not so sure you can stop at any time without titrating
Are you sure it was Wellbutrin?

I’ll take it for a few weeks and then just stop. Wife too. No issues whatsoever.

My doctor says you can start and stop at will.

Quitting SSRIs is a whole nuther animal.

A bad flu can cause side effects for quite some time.

Note most "long COVID" symptoms are easily manifested in one's mind.

Combine that with a population who was repeatedly told "If you get COVID you will die."

A lot of people were fvcking terrified of COVID and then they got COVID then spent days/weeks isolated in their room with flu like symptoms thinking they were going to die.

That kind of experience just might prime you for "long COVID."

Why would one have long covid after having an illness they believe wasn’t Covid?
I must be totally fucking crazy

It happens.

I had a patient some years back who got it in Yosemite.

I've been completely covered in ticks a few times in the strangest places where I totally wasn't expecting (off trail near Poway - WTF? within 1/4 mile of the Mexican border -WTF ?)

I didn't say that.

I said a large part of the population was primed for long COVID.

Fear, anxiety, social isolation.

Over several years the media ingrained in the population that COVID was deadly.

Many people developed thought patterns of the above that are difficult to undo.

Then they contracted the "deadly" disease on top of that existing thought pattern.

Traumatic, right?

Especially if you know how anxious people operate ("I'm going to die.")

Now they have difficult sleeping, brain fog, fatigue, etc.

The brain is ultra powerful; the conundrum is that the power of the brain is often seen in the psychologically broken.

I got the flu in Feb of 2020 and it lasted a month and certain effects lingered for awhile.

About 15 years ago I got the flu - had a lingering cough x 3 months.

Fatigue is normal after a bout of illness. How an individual's psychology responds to this is another matter. Especially when long COVID is getting lots of traction in the news feed. "I think I have long COVID too..."

Remember when the media early on was talking about COVID causing infertility in males as it can cause sperm counts to plummet? Flu w/ fever is shown to plummet sperm counts months as well.

Is it possible to overstudy an illness?
