I read something somewhere (maybe here?) about how our body has very different systemic responses for heat and cold

when one part of your body feels cold...eg. putting your feet in a cold lake...your entire body feels the cold instantly

whereas if you were to dip your foot in to a jacuzzi, the sensation of warmth is localized to just that zone

the body treats extreme cold sensations as an existential threat and alerts the entire system...this is why it's best just to jump all in as opposed to the much more difficult and physically stressful approach of slowly easing yourself in to cold water slowly
Interesting. Makes sense.

The snowbank to jacuzzi to snowbank to jacuzzi to... transfers would definitely shock your system pretty well.

Admittedly not as much shock as a Lexus though.

Humans have a high tolerance for cold when they are cold adapted.

We have three different systems to manage it.

Think about before we had clothes.

Think about the Pilgrims landing on Plymouth Rock in winter
We were in the Rift Valley before clothes
