Trip to China in mid-2000, Shanghai and Beijing. Was staying with a friend who has moved there for work and married. Asked him how much I should pay for a phone card, and he told me. I went to the same lady 5 times in a week to buy a phone card, and had the same conversation 5 times. (Instead of just buying a bunch at once, it turned into a social experiment for me.)China = consistant.
