It's strange to use the term 'mechanics' when referring to a wave

Why in this surfline video do they use the term 'mechanics' when referring to a wave (namely pipeline)? Why is a wave compared to a machine?

it’s a term that goes beyond mechanics in the human world.

bio mechanics is something I deal with and take into consideration everyday. If I didn’t I might be dead right now. Not ocean related but just an example of the broadness of the term.
