Your Mom’s House
Thats EXACTLY what my wife said when we were up in the high pastures with our bikes, carrying them over stonewalls, while I was trying to convince her we could make it all the way to the Black Fort via the hilltop. “Look honey you can SEE the fort way over there!”

“This is NOT going to get us there we need to turn back!”

I eventually conceded that I was out of my mind, so we back tracked to an actual lane way and found the correct way to the Black Fort
They’re always right aren’t they!

…. Many moons ago was w my kids visiting wife’s grandparents in Florida. We went to their community pool, Grandma to follow in a bit. When we got down there I asked grandpa where he’d like to sit? He looked at me and smiled, then said “doesn’t matter where we pick, when she comes down it’ll be wrong n then we’ll move to a “better” spot : )

Classic. Every day. Every experience. I just smile now so long as it’s not about hunting or surfing.

vab looked ok but soft. Family event, so no surf.

anything north of 10 seconds, gotta find a novelty break orhead north.

I’d take 8-10ft at 8-9 sec over 4-5ft at 12-15 any day in jersey. Angrily beyond that and the bottom can handle it for majority of breaks

There is a longboard wave here but that's about it. I might get wet on the incoming if there is a ripple to ride otherwise I'll be somewhere on the beach looking for striped bass.

Overall feedback from one end of LI to the other was a few highlights and moments, overall lots of confusion and driving around and being underwhelmed

the household name spot out east seemed like it had the best afternoon

Oh and to continue my shameless hijacking, rather than just starting a trip report thread; this is home base in Doonbeg for the next 6 days.

Yea east end was the spot for sure. West side of island literally only one small section turned on, and even there I heard mixed things. Crowd was worst I’ve ever seen.

Surfed LBI, all close outs except for the south end of Island. I chose surfing the closeouts in my old home town because I did not want to deal with the crowd at the few spots working. @Subway, my mother was born in the area(Clare) and years ago I did a trip there, the place has the goods, stoked for you :jamon:

Lots of medium sized swell in the water, just gotta find the right wind spot and tide. This place is overwhelmingly beautiful and dare I say mystical, surfing is kind of an afterthought. Every where you turn your mind is blown

all that spiritual mumbo jumbo aside, I told my wife there will be a few hours here and there dedicated solely for wave hunting, and she is welcome to join in the hunt, or wander off flirting with the handsome young dairy farmer/mechanical engineer up the hill  :roflmao: :bricks:

I mean, my wife isn’t shy. We hadn’t been at the cottage more than an hour before we strolled down to catch afternoon rush hour of 99 head of milk cows, udders fit to burst, heading from the beach front pasture up to the barn for dinner and milking. Within Minutes my wife was milking her first cow

So i did paddle to Assateague and had it all to myself yesterday on the incoming in the afternoon...super fun wobbly, head high plus lefts off the jetty. This morning was pretty fun in ocean city too on the groveler...overall was a weird swell

Everyone who would usually have been in OC was up there too. Was anything north of steel pier working? I stuck around VP and then some wide open, shifting beach break. Fun without having to deal with a crowd.
Around 3:30 I biked the OC boardwalk to check my spots and everyplace was pretty much empty but the surf was good. Everyone went elsewhere, myself included. By 5:30 it was a shitshow as usual.

Windy Irish slab. Dairy farmer (and new BFF) says nobody surfs this. I don’t doubt it

Meanwhile, in stupid things Subway should or should not eat- these are growing in the cow poop. Does that mean they’re magic? Never seen them fresh so I have no clue

Checking Doughmore and LaHainch today. Wind supposed to blow a half gale from the north tomorrow. That’s offshore on the other side of trumps course I believe.
