Remember when the southern states claimed constitutional rights?

or the republicans during the Great Depression before FDR threatened to pack the court?

there are numerous examples less extreme than this too

yet the USA still exists

would we still exist if we couldn’t adapt to circumstances?

After natural disaster the restrictions on movement, etc are always lifted, but the bedwetters think this is going to be permanent?

Fantasy land sh!t

rights have been suspended during crises throughout US history

it’s not a fairy tale
They’ve never been fully returned after the suspensions, especially in the 20th and 21st Centuries

Our rights are meaningless if they can be suspended, and every time they’ve been suspended it has been wrong

Both of those examples resulted in multiple constitutional amendments and one resulted in a war where half a million Americans died

they should sue

the ACLU makes hay every day fighting constitutional violations just
like this. this case is only noteworthy at this moment due to being
virus-related news

that said, you can assemble right now. go do it...just maintain your
prescribed 6 feet of separation.

it would be an interesting test....

how many people, appropriately spaced, need gather before local PD
gets a boaner and break out the riot tanks

it’s just pragmatism

the USA is a pragmatic culture

this belief in magical rights descended from God is absurd

when the rights lose their utility they get dialed back

sometimes temporarily, sometimes not

in this case do you really think the right to assemble will be permanently taken away?

this has happened over and over again but it’s not a big deal

why would it be any other way? We’re not a nation of philosophers

like what?

whats your fear beyond the short term?
The big fear is that they're going to close down lots of things at the drop of a hat any time there's a bug, not the full lockdown, but enough to be unsavory

Otherwise, there's going to be dumb social distance and mask rules that remain maybe forever
