Other than returning to the old testing, not sure how the county will be able walk this back.

Could mean bigtime trouble for a lot of businesses in the area and the Hotel del.

Not to mention property values for homeowners.

And on a side note - researchers are just now discovering the major source of pollution is NOT the TJ river but actually the Punta Bandera sewage treatment plant?

It's ancient fact, not rumor, that Punta Bandera pumps a gazillion gallons of sewage "treated" with bleach straight into the ocean on the daily. LOL - did anyone actually think the ocean smelled like bleach because of the river?

What's an acceptable poop to ocean ratio? Are we talking a chemically significant amount of poop?
Does it matter that it's Mexico poop, because of the corn and peppers and such?

Whatever the results...gross. anyways everyone knows there are no waves in IB.

Well, the water was considered "safe" to swim in up until recently when the new testing started.

So this is basically new testing making the same old water seem more contaminated when it actually isn't.
I thought you just previously posted that it was full of bleach?

I wrote a letter to the editor about the Border pollution in the 80s saying maybe they will actually do something if it affects the Hotel Del, maybe something will happen before I am dead. #breatheholding

Hmmm maybe officials could ask them to change their behavior lime we’ve all been asked to for the past 2+ years.

It has been bad. Mostly foul since mid May. The testing and signs have been decent but if you have been surfing there for any length of time you can see and smell and know whats going on. For the most part. It has been windy and walled so much I don't drive down. Coronado never joined the lawsuit. Did not want any wiff of sewage to reduce property value. The weak pussy governments in SD, CV had momentum but have no balls. 2022 is going to be beach closed all summer at the Hotel Del. They will still pay $1000 a night to stay there. Fuck the beach. The pool is better.

I thought San Diego had its water sh!t together?
This is a Bi-National (gay code pun not intended...) problem. Our neighbors to the south have an almost completely failed collection, treatment and discharge infrastructure. The plant a Punta Banderas is basically a rock catcher. As noted above, their idea of treatment is to remove the bigger solids and cook the rest with bleach.
The County, State and Federal governments have failed us with their inaction against Mexico in resolving this issue. The South Bay International Treatment Plant in San Ysidro has never put a dent into the problem and has never been able to run at full capacity for one reason or another...
You'd think Newsom would let loose with some of tax surplus he is always using to pander for votes to help improve the situation but he wont.
Coronado deserves what they get this summer by turning a blind eye for so many years. You'd think the fact that this stretch of beach is used by the Navy for SEAL training would spur the DOD to get engaged but so far nada.
Wild Coast's (and IB Mayor) Serge Dedina, has been fighting for years to get this situation resolved. Maybe this new study and the effects it will have on Coronado and the Navy will finally result in some real corrective action(s).

It is difficult for the Navy to prove dirty water has negatively impacted the mission. There was a 60 minute story about the sewage problem a few years ago and the new SEAL base down by IB and that was a prime opportunity to get some movement. Nada.
