I hate it when people name their kids something no one can pronounce, then proceed to get all pissed when no one can pronounce it.

Kids make fun of anything and everything. Don't give her a name that will be one more thing to be made fun of. She'll be stuck with the name her whole life (yeah, yeah, she can change it, but few do). Sometimes you just don't know until you see your beautiful child for the first time. So don't feel like you have to decide right now.

That said, congratulations!

like abalone said, kids will find something in every name to make fun of. one of my friends wanted to name their girl Piper until someone said they would be made fun of non-stop "pipe-her"

kids are mean!

I knew it was gonna be a damn girl cause we were all set on a boys name. I liked Chole too but ofcourse, he hates it. He hates names that sound like porn stars (i liked Jade, Shayne, and Daize. My mom likes Savanah) and boys names for girls (i like Dylan, Taylor, Avery, and again Shayne). I think Zoe is the ONLY name he liked, oh and Maddison (but that's too common now)

My name is Amie and kids used to call me "flame-y". Any name will get turned into something crappy. But pipe-her, that's sad!

I'm a female with a boy's name, and I gotta tell you, I HATED it as a kid. Course now it's trendy to name a girl a boy's name. I was just before my time, I guess.

yeah, totally! I'm actually really excited it's a girl, I bought this really tiny bikini at Central Coast surfboards in SLO a few weeks ago. My poor son was gonna have to sport it if i didn't have a girl. I was just stoked that after all the trouble with girl names, me and the boyfriend agreed right away on a boy's name.

We didn't find out the gender on our first. We had a girl's name from day 1 (Lauren.) We haggled and haggled over boy's names. After about 85% certainty it was a boy, it turned out to be a girl. Lauren it is!
Funny thing about guessing gender... everyone has an approach. When my wife was at the dry cleaner, the Asian proprieter said she would have a boy because she had a dirty neck... my wife thought that was funny, but the thought of 'ring around the collar'...?
We're having a boy in roughly a month. We're right back to square one... haggling over names.
We've got three lists: Her 'A' list, my 'A' list, and the joke list. The joke list helps to break up the conversation.
Example: William Robert = 'Billy Bob'

The playground test also works. Not so common a name that calling it out makes half the playground turn around... not so uncommon that everyone snickers... not so so uncommon that your kid doesn't even THINK about going to the
playground. Nothing that can be matched with
anything else as a source of endless abuse...

Besides hitting the forum, you may want to pick
up your favorite magazine and look at names. If
these are folks that you identify with, why not
pass it on?

Good luck, and congratulations!

I like all the Hawaiian names, like Keala, Malia etc... Very sexy, but then again, a newborn is not supposed to be sexy
