Ran into two things today . . . Bassy posted the billabong xxl big wave thing and ran into hydro foil

Hydrofoils on surfboards can allow them to ride waves that were previously unridden by normal boards . . .

Was browsing through Swaylocks and some guy called Herb had a post with curved fins. FCS site says they make a board feel 6" shorter. Did a google and there was a bit in harboursurf forum (nice boards), and the lead shaper there said you need to relearn how to surf to use these FCS CRV fins. There's also a river surfer that swears by them.

Anyone have a go with those and can ya comment?

I’m playing with a set right now. Board feels looser to me. Has more of a twin fin like squirt out of turns. Rather lively. I’m thinking the ‘relearn to surf’ thing is a bit of an overstatement.

I agree with GWS that the "relearn how to surf" thing is an exaggeration. They are really fast and smooth, not quite twin-fin feel (I love twin fins and ride them often) but do have many of the twin-fins qualities... difficult to explain. The CRV fins have been discussed on this message board numerous times before. Do a search to find the threads.

they made my board feel more like 2-4" shorter. and they're mainly good for smaller waves. they feel good on cutbacks. also instead of using that keel fin they come with, try using a G-S trailing fin ( i think, it's GS; the small trailer fin fcs sells individually). check out www.fincontrol.com . it's the fcs website; they have a list of test drive centers; shops that let you try the fins out before you buy them.

serf,
i have the gcrv, or whatever they are called. they are pretty sweet. they hold speed super well, but tend to make it tougher for cut backs and such...
maybe it's just because i am used to riding gx's which are super small regular composite fins.
i've only ridden them once as i've been busy. (being grounded and wrestling)
but they seem to hold speed super well.
i would say these curved fins would be more than perfect for a larger/ more powerful surfer, in mushy beach break waves.
they skate very well on flats, and hold speed well and fly through whitewash.
plus they look cool!!!!!!! haha
but next weekend i'm gonna take em out with no trailer fin....as maybe that will loosen it up for me.
