How Long To Let A Ding Dry For

Got a gash in my rail, about an inch into the board. Foam exposed. Ugh. Some donkey kicked his longboard RIGHT at my head on a closeout, not wearing a leash. Threw my board and dove. Kept surfing for about a half hour because it happened while I was paddling out and I was pissed. How much water do boards/foam absorb? How long should I let it sit before I get it repaired?

Lot of factors in dry time...

I'd peel all loose glass back, put the board ding side down, and put a fan on high pointing right at it.

put it somewhere with dry air for a few days. buy a ding kit and read the instructions. Do the repair and surf the board as soon as its hard to the touch.... takes a few hours with a ding that small. Then go f*ck yourself

not wet to the touch and no more water dripping out

leashless kid on a popout lb fell in front of me, as i was paddling to the peak so he could keep going. his board shot right at me and hit me in the shoulder before i could get under. glad i didn't ditch my 1-week-old board and end up with a big rail gash. i'd rather take a shot to the shoulder. feels like i just got a flu shot. lucky it didn't hit the side of my head.

lightly press a piece of paper towel against the foam. once it's not absorbing water should be about dry enough

Related to the original post above...If you get a ding out in the water how much does it matter if you stay out longer versus come in immediately?

I have always wondered if the board takes on a lot more water or if it doesn't matter that much?

Eps get your a$$ in but p/u can surf for a while but dry time will take longer so you have to wait to fix so it depends how desperate you are to surf the board again and of course the weather is huge factor on dry time

Yeah I said something to him.

As far as letting the board hit you or your own board...fark that, this was a 20lb singlefin. If that hit me in the head I"d be effed. I already got a harry potter scar on my forehead from my own fin (small day stupid antics in the shorebreak). Don't need more face decorations. Guy had no business riding leashless with the maneuver he pulled.

Anyway thanks for the advice - I was just wondering how much P/U foam absorbs water. It's not like a kitchen sponge, but not sure how much/far that water will seep in. It's a light JS shortboard and I just don't want water weight in it.

Water weight is not the problem the problem is the resin will not bond properly to wet foam and be weak

Really?? See this is I guess the main jist of my question. I was kind of thinking that water would flood into the board, and get heavier like a kitchen sponge might. But not so much?
