How long do you hold onto drop-in resentments

Will there be snacks

A friend of a friend dropped in on me on a bigger day where most of the waves were closing out. This one was lining up nice and he went and fell. I bailed out the back when he went. When he got back out to the lineup he says, "I should have let you go". Then kept saying he was under-gunned. A-hole. I was riding a fish and made the drop. His wife got drunk one night at a party and was flirting with me so that made me feel better about letting it go out in the water. 27 years ago.

Glad to hear it. I’ve been telling you for months that you had nothing to worry about while you were wringing your hands and killing off your troll handles. Here’s looking forward to a prosperous new year!

You should've fucked her. The ultimate payback.

If I'm at some random spot then I'll usually let the first one go. Haven't really ever had to deal with it though. I'm 6'2 and 220 so most people just let me be and don't hassle me. I don't like being aggressive so I usually just wait until one comes my way. I'm also not from California so I won't pull the local card on anyone. I am super nice to everyone and some friends introduced me to the locals at one of the spots I surf in SD and once they found out I was born and raised in Hawaii then they let me snag some good ones and call me into waves.

I did get stuffed by one guy once in Hawaii and I gave him an earful. He wouldn't apologize so then I burned him right after. He then said I was being ridiculous and ruining the vibe. lol

Also, I once had a grudge with someone over something stupid. Finally, after like six months I ran into him and he kept running his mouth and being a POS. Well, I snapped and beat the ever living sh!t out of him. You know what happened? I almost had my life ruined because the dude called the cops and I was investigated for assault. I also didn't feel any better and felt bad about it because it wasn't a fair fight and when I was finished punching him it felt like I beat up a little kid. After that experience I always tell people to try and be the bigger man and just walk away. It isn't worth the risk.

Just an FYI, the Hawaii card won't typically make it better, but worse. Some of the worst entitlement I've ever seen, and I'm not alone.

Lol.

Try living in Hawaii and having the entire surf world show up every winter and hassle everyone because they are only there for a little while.

I have no entitlement and I only mention I'm from Hawaii if someone asks. The cool ones know what Hawaii surfers deal with so they give a little bit in return. I never expect it.

Perhaps you are not giving your skills enough credit. Perhaps. nobody is “giving” and you are just on top of it. I remember in the 90’s after spending 13 years in Hawai’i, traveling the globe and I ended up doing a year at a Jr College…I surfed Trestles a lot. My Mom had a house up on the cliffs at Cypress Shores. I got waves. Nobody was giving. Its just Cali aint Hawai’i.

there's one guy around here who I will never forgive.

unless he miraculously became self aware and apologized or something... but he seems too stupid to do that

I also hassle this person when opportunity arises
Have names been named? Can I get a hint at least?

if someone apologizes I forgive instantly
This for me. It's almost always the best people who do this.

I had an attempted shut the door on me on Saturday at Maypacked. Some fkn zoomer perm salad-headed teenager. He made it halfway down the face before he splatted of his own accord. I made a mental note that I get a free wave next time I see him deeper. He paddled about 40 yards away.

If the act prompts resentment I usually try to deal with immediately. The thing to hang onto is the free wave coupon.

Steven Tyler of the Rock and Roll band “ Aerosmith” suggests always being quick to forgive. I try to as well.

On the other hand...I caught an employee on CCTV stealing from me. Flew to Hawai'i and fired his ass. Then he tried to collect unemployment. No way Jose Cartier. Denied. Fuck him forever.

There’s a fine line between unforgivable and unforgettable.

Oh I bet it's horrible. Most of the reason why I don't go there to surf. Just sayinng some of the biggest pricks I've seen in my travels are from Hawaii.

Only been to Hawaii a few times, and only time I got any degree of hassle was from a burn-out white guy when there were just him, a young woman visiting home from Pepperdine, and myself.

After he didn't get a rise out me, starts asking the woman where she was from ( she gestures and the land behind us, says, "there") and when asked who her father was ("How would you know my dad?")

It was all made better when another surfer joined us, giving me and the burn-out a glare, then starts talking to the woman, who shakes her head when I get pointed out, and a nod when the burn-out is pointed out.

Burn out paddles in, I stay at the tail end of the section and continue having a good time.

Anyway, am sure my tale has zero bearing on marquee or North Shore spots during good surf.
