get a job as a firefighter in the San Diego area. I am thinking of moving to a friends place in December. I currently don't have any qualifications since I have worked in sales for 5+ years, but it is something that I have always wanted to do. Thanks for the help.

Getin line, it's a very long line. Being a SD firefighter is the best job ever, high pay, retire early with big bucks & benifits, lots of over time at 2X & 3X, and get to surf mid week all the time.

You might wanna try looking at Hawaii, or other islands out this way that need what you bring.
Guam, or some exotic place that you could start the first fire dept.
Man Diego is done, toast, over-crowded, etc.

I dont want to be a firefighter anymore, more like some type of medical field. But I have alot of friends that want to be firefighters and I work on an ambulance and everyone wants to be fire. You will need to be EMT-B, paramadic license if you want a real chance, plus reserve fire experience, or fire academy or both.

Try LA, they might hire you with just EMT-B and a drivers license. Unless your very dedicated better forget SD, its really hard.

I was a firefighter. You couldn't have picked a harder to job to land. Today, as said above, the more certifications and even a college degree is what a department is looking for.

Try nursing, 3-12hr shifts a week and 4 days to surf, not so bad <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/shrug.gif" alt="" /> plus you can work as a traveling nurse and make great money to surf the world. Why limit yourself to sandy eggo.
