You need the Jig for installing the box. Call 760-757-3147 Ask about the vacuum jig. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

I've been wondering the same thing. surfingsandiego.com and surfersteve.com both have different ways of doing it, but it sounds like measuring it out and using a router is the best route. Let me know how it turns out and what you did, I'm planning on putting one in on my 8'6" in a week or two.

Hey
You have a router and a saw, some scrap wood, just make one, if you are going to install lots in the future.
If you are only worried about one, then just place the box on the bottom tail where you want it, outline it with marking pen, and rout that area out, starting shallow, like just thru the glass, then go deeper to depth of box + 1/16th.
Mix 50/50 resin and chopped glass, one layer of cloth, or more if you routed too deep, and install with fin taped to prevent resin from glueing the fin in permanently. Tape the menegarie to the rails to insure upright. Check for alignment.
About 1/3rd more than you need for shortboards.
I don't know how well you glass or how economical you are with resin. I use about a little over 2/3rd quart to laminate single layer, a little more for double, on 9'6" gun boards.
Some guys who work mass production use 1/2 again more, and slop all over the ground and stands. Some cheap guys with slow batches use quite a bit less, but they are anal.

Kauai , Hi
Visit site
Fin Box guy ?

Looks like LeeD's advice is spot on ! However it looks like you are trying to install the baine loc box system according to the jig in the picture? For a single fin you might try just one long box, O-fishL or Baine longbox and trace it on the hot coat then cut out, freehand . two plus one system same thing plus sidebites to your chosing . ck out www.edgefins.kauaistyle.com for your sidebites, it's really neet to have the advantage of adjusting your fins to the conditions of the surf !
The glassing, start with a slow batch to saturate the cloth then add more resin and more hardner, go over again and pull laps around. This will give you more time and make it easier to adjust the amount of resin you need . Wear you resperator and gloves !

Have a great surf ! Edge Fins
