The old man says he'll buy me round-trip airfare anywhere in the world when I complete my degree.

If you had the oppurtunity to travel anywhere in December where would you go?

I've got some ideas. Perhaps New Zealand or Tonga or Fiji.

Get him to buy you an "around the world ticket"

Hawaii - Fiji - New Zealand - Gold Coast (OZ) - Bali - South Africa

I think they give you six tops or so. End up in South Africa in mid summer (Aug.)

You will still need money for accomodations and boards (start with four and buy four more in OZ)

You can do it budget with a Lonely Planet book and have the trip of a life-time. If I didn't have this job, I would hit it up this Dec. with you.
