Attaching the leash first must not have seemed like the greatest idea in hindsight.

And why not just throw over the board first? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/roflmao.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/roflmao.gif" alt="" />

I jump from a pier a ton and that is my biggest fear. I do hold the board most of the way down, but NO leash on. Yikes.

Years back a guy jumped from some rocks at LWnS, in Santa Cruz and got hung like that, and received a bashing in the large surf. Almost scalped him, knocked unconscious, put in the hospital, etc.

Think!

I'm going to guess too that most of the times you jumped off a pier for surf, it was because it was a bitch to paddle out otherwise. Those waves in that sequence are something like 1'. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/roflmao.gif" alt="" />

I'm sure he would have landed on the board if he did that. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/roflmao.gif" alt="" />

An ACME leash no doubt.

Good marketing for the leash company. "Tough enough to withstand the dumbest kook maneuvers"..

That leash could become the first Surfboard Slingshot .... he's farked if that board comes loose <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/unuts.gif" alt="" />

Who are these people, and where do they come from? I see people doing things in the ocean these days that tell me they have no understanding WHATSOEVER of the ocean, currents, what a wave is capable of doing, what a surfboard is capable of doing--nothing. Are they the spawn of alien butt sex on waterless planets who were beamed to earth? Honestly, I cannot believe the things I see people doing anymore. If they weren't such a threat to everyone's safety--including their own- it would be hilarious. But it's not.

I'm missing that next shot, where a helpful bystander disentangles his leash and the board goes shooting at his head, FINS FIRST.

PS, If you have any questions on where to find these people, go to any of the name breaks in North LA County on a warm weekend with some swell in the water. They are everywhere.

No worries, he simply slingshotted the leash back up to the pier:

Thanks for the advice, but it isn't needed; as you correctly note, the morons are everywhere. I can expect them to account for one or more personal injuries every year, not to mention multiple dings and leash breaks.
