Might as well get a second opinion. Too many loud assed shows at the 40Watt Club and hours in the water led me to a set of Costco Rexton's on my doc's suggestion. They have helped. Got pretty used to 'em too. Can't believe some of the noise levels at shows in the 90's. I had plugs in during a Dino Jr show and I swear my ears were still almost ready to bleed.

My mother is hearing impaired and gets tremendous help from hearing aids. She’s stone deaf in her left ear from an accoustic neuroma and has a bone anchored hearing aid that sends vibrations through her mastoid bone to her good ear. She was actually the first person to ever have one in trials in the early nineties. Now with old age her good ear is starting to decline and requires a conventional hearing aid. What she’ll tell you is that hearing aids require a good fit and proper calibration. Prepare to spend some time with your audiologist getting it set right for you. If your audiologist isn’t willing to spend time calibrating it for you find another one who is.

Return it. Don't know about FL, but in CA you get 30 days to test them.

During COVID I tried going that route. One of my ears barely works, for various reasons and after several surgeries. Went to an ENT and she said 'the only thing we can do is put a lag bolt in your head and hang the device from it' and ... No I am not putting a bolt in my head and she replied,' it is a really nice bolt'.:(

The first hearing aid specialist was cool. She was, don't get the super expensive one and it can help and I only need one. Couldn't get another appointment with her but got on with another person at her clinic. Bitch was hard sell for the top-of-the-line and wanted me to buy 2 .

Ordered one went in for fitting and she had it set up all ready. Put it in and it was like someone was yelling in my head. I could hear pencils drop across the room. People babbling on in personal conversations... all at the same time. I yanked it out. No way I could wear it. She readjusted the setting to its lowest level and it was still not comfortable. She said try it.

I tried it didn't like it and stopped wearing it after 2 weeks. Returned it.

How are they not working? I have a set, need to use them more often!!! Everytime I put them in, it's amazing how much better I can understand everyone.

Perhaps the cones are clogged up with wax?
Are you putting them in right? They need to go right up to the eardrum.
Check your frequency response chart, maybe the wrong frequencies are getting amplified.

^ Yep and my ears make extra skicky wax in generous quantities. In the first week, the little cone on the end got waxy but they had two replacement cones that came with the device.
Buying new cones all the time would suck.

Think it's better to nod and say mmmmm when people speak to you.

Is the doctor at the VA?

I ask as my dad is almost deaf after working around aircraft for 15 years, both Navy and commercial. As long as I can remember he has not been able to hear.

As a kid I can remember him going to the VA numerous times and they would tell him his hearing was fine.

It wasn't until about 25 years later when he was unable to hear an alarm clock did they acknowledge he actually had hearing loss and he got a set of hearing aids. And still couldn't hear.

I referred him to a good ENT who specializes in the ear - turns out the VA was of course understating amount of hearing loss. He also got a better hearing aid setup and now he can hear.

He's not the first person I've hear of this happening to, in fact I know several former military who can't hear worth sh!t due to being around arms fire and get told the same thing at the VA - "Your hearing is fine."

So if it's the VA where you're going, try elsewhere.

I got out of the army 1973. Never used VA until a buddy told me about the various hearing aids qualified vets can get. Went to VA in La Jolla, filled out paper work had an appointment for hearing test, etc. Audiologist could not have been more professional, quality I experienced is equal to what I’ve had with Scripps over the decades. The hearing aids blue tooth to my phone, I stream Pandora when I do my daily walks. Calls go to the hearing aids ‘automatically,’ no need for replacement batteries, the internal batteries charge overnight and give 12 hours service. Easy peasy. Just to keep with the erBB political reputation, I’ve heard from more than a few vets that Trump and company kicked ass at the VA and the before/after care changes improved substantially (I still wouldn’t vote for him if he runs again).

It’s always amazing to me how VA funding is even a source of debate. That should be one thing we should all be able to agree on.

A good audiologist will work with you to adjust them but it takes at least several weeks acclimate to the sound. And don't eat nacho chips for awhile.
