Some actually are. But they become addicted to power.
Tulsi Gabbard in question
should've just stayed on the City Council and got some real life changing sht done around here
real change takes a long time, decades
but all these folks are just looking for the next higher paycheck, power and prestige
forgetting why they ran in the first place as the growing access to power and money corrupts
you have to have an incredibly strong sense of self and purpose to push it all away
The only one I know of in recent history was Mau Pialug
or maybe in the past Mother Teresa, Father Damien and Princess Ruth

Reading here and having no dog in the race, generally I see people from Hawaii that impress me all the time, politicians maybe but surfers and historians auntie's uncles, traditional Hawaiian revolutionaries, reformers, even homeless folks who sometimes get interviewed who manage to convey serious thoughtful points, which are poignant and considerate way beyond the kind of all out attacks made by so many in my area.
There is a quality of character, that was lost here long ago that seems to shine through daily. Maybe rose colored glasses I dunno but,

All the good Hawai'ians move to California and all the good Californians move out. Don't shoot the messenger, this is just how it works.

I fukkin hate Vegas but I know a couple of people who moved there for greater economic opportunities and they seem happy. Tough to live there if you really like the outdoor lifestyle, I would think.

Only good thing about Vegas,
is that what happens in Vegas,
stays in Vegas.

Why are YOU still here?

One of my oldest, best friends is always going about how California is going down the shitter because of the "socialists." The ironic thing is he is a lifelong employee of the federal governement (Homeland Security). He was originally with the Department of Agriculture. I remember when his detail got folded into DHS and he complained about having to wear a black (instead of tan) uniform and carry a firearm. It seems now he's all in....

Going for a hike now, Mishe Mokwa awaits... :waving:

People talk about california as if it is a single culture. 90% of the state's population area is republican controlled, including san diego and orange county the most quintessentially californian regions. The reason people move from California is that certain areas are insanely expensive. Its not because of socialists. Its not actually possible to be oppressed by socialism just walking down the street even if you are in the most liberal areas.

People move because of the price not because texas or anywhere else is culturally superior. I've lived in orange county, Berkeley (near SF), a small island in washington state, seattle, Ibiza, Manhattan, the hamptons, and at the moment am in one of the hipster parts of LA. LA is ugly and expensive but there is a reason for it.

No I’m pretty sure you can be oppressed by failed socialist policies.

when you have tent cities and house less people shooting up in open air markets it becomes a problem.

That being said- California is a nice place but run by lunatics in certain areas.

People move away from CA for the same reason that they move away from HI: nice places are expensive AF. Sadly a lot of native sons and daughters get priced out. Only a tiny percentage of move-outs are because of politics or whatever.

It's run by lunatics in most places people live. It's the Land of the Fruits, Nuts, and Flakes.

I don’t know if you can say failed if no policies surrounding homelessness were ever proposed or enacted.
