Paywall but I kind of remember the story. Was in the news about a year ago. Ocean Grove as I remember is not actually a town but rather a private organization within the town of Neptune. Much like the Ocean City Tabernacle Association in my town. It owns the property that a handful of beach accesses are on that access a section of beach that they have the riparian rights to. There are plenty of other areas of beach up in that part of NJ that are also pretty much off limits. People are focusing on the religious aspect of this location because of religious hatred when in reality its a private property issue.
Where the issue gets sticky are two things:
1. NJ's Public Trust Doctrine which guarantees citizens the right to the shore line. (Not the private beach accesses though)
2. If that section of beach has had beach replenishment using taxpayers money which I'm not sure one way or the other if it has.
Its nowhere near me. This place is in the backyard of @mundus.
