My kid asked me the other day why women don't do airs in competitions. From a guy whose never done one, nor come even close, I didn't have an answer. A few days ago we were out at a Santa Cruz spot and there were two girls (guessing around 16-17) who were absolutely ripping, they were flying down the line, huge buckets of spray off the lip, etc..and these were two random girls who weren't pro's. At least yet. My first thought would be about brute strength but there are some 12-13 kids who go for it.

Girls don’t do airs in contests because they aren’t at that level of ability yet. Plenty do them free surfing.
I am totally cheering for the women to start doing airs in contests and the men to stop doing airs in contests.
