Can you power your electric motor without a fuel source? Electric motors ARE awesome for their high torque instant GO. What powers your motor? Solar? Wind? That plug in the wall?

Someday, we'll have our flying electric cars with solar/Mr Fusion hybrid energy sources. EV's are finally starting to get there, but it's still a ways off for full replacement of IC motors, especially for long endurance and instant re-fueling. Hybrids will be the way to go for most for a while.

Power grids better be ready for them when they do take hold, and everyone plugs in at night when they get home, in the summer, when they also switch on the A/C. It will be like running another A/C unit or your electric clothes dryer at the same time for the hours it takes to recharge that Prius or Tesla at home.

As "green" as it sounds, it's going to take a lot of energy sources from somewhere, at a very large scale.
Your arguments are fine. What I don't get is why you seem dead set against incentivizing this inevitability? USA could lead the way, or should we wait and see what others do?

China uses many, many tons of coal to power those EV's.

They're also cornering the market on lithium rare earth metals sources.

Letting China take over production of its most important component, lithium batteries, means they control the destiny of EV's.
Yeah, so let's not invest in green energy infrastructure, let'snot incentivize electric vehicles and just hand the ball to the Chicoms?

We ARE transitioning to EV's. It's taken WAY too long already, but the tech is only now becoming somewhat sustainable.

It's the energy source used (for EV's) that needs to be settled on. Lithium batteries are NOT the long term answer, IMO.

And with China taking control of it's mining, production and long term strategy, we'll be suckling their teat like we did with the Middle East for oil in the 70's and 80's in no time.

BTW, thanks for the 3 year old article. Before China decided to corner the lithium market.
