So yea, Friday nite as I was walking home, half in the bag, from the bar, I decided it would be cool to run and slide on the ice down a hill. As i planted my front foot (left) I rolled it and heard a real loud snap. Right away I knew what happened so i crawled off of the street and had someone call me an ambulance. It turned out I fractured my left fibula and maybe did some nerve damage, although I have all movement and feeling in my toes. Yesterday they installed a metal plate and 4 screws, and I have to go back in 2 weeks to get the staples out. I was wondering what the typical recovery time for an injury like this might be? How would this injuury effect surfing? Also would you reccomend getting an MRI to check how its healing? This is all the info I can give you for now, but anything you might be able to tell me would be appreaciated <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Thx

Thanks RG. It does suck, but I think i can rehab it pretty good. I was just talking to my uncle in Tennessee who is an orthopedic surgeon, and he said all the signs I had were good ones and he figures I should make a full recovery. Its a long road but I think I'll be aight.

Did it hurt really bad or just feel really awkward? I've never broken a bone. Was it really weird looking too? Sorry to hear it. You'll be fine soon though.

It will probably take at least 6-8 weeks to heal and no horsing around. Let that puppy rest and get better! No MRI. Not with that metal plate in there, a plain x-ray will be just fine to check the bone mending. If you screw up or depending on other factors you might have to wait 6 months for a license to play. Check with your doc.

It didn't hurt too bad, probably thanks to the alcohol in my system. It was probably the equivalent in pain as a really bad sprained ankle. Enough to mutter a few curse words and too sore to put any weight on. It wasn't really nasty looking or anything, just all swollen, no bone protruding. The most disturning thing was probably the loud "snap" when the bone broke, which i'm sure the whole block heard. I knew what it was right away so I just stayed on my ass and let some guys help me off the street. No pain now at all either.
