Not sure what to call it or what it is, but it's nothing new.
Pain runs up from between shoulders, left of center, seemingly up into my neck. Affected by moving my head too fast or using left arm. Didn't set in after any notable incident this time, just a hint at first then just kind of got worse to where it's really bothering me constantly. I'm using a heating pad right now and plan to surf a lot next week come hell or high water.
I wish I had a reset button, I ate all the muscle relaxants years ago.

I dealt with exactly what you describe for years. Go to your nearest Walmart and buy one of these. Best $8 I ever spent. Find the pain point with the roller and work the knots out. Make it part of your routine.

Same concept, but I've had more success with a single lacrosse ball. I can never keep the peanutsacks going in the direction I want. They track.
I can move and get the lacrosse ball to move more easily.

And they are even cheaper!

I've done tennis balls and laxrosse balls too.
I have this roller from the company that makes the Theragun. It works pretty good too.

This also works:

Resulted in a weird semi-seizure but that strip of muscle did feel better afterwards.

I will never, ever do that again. :roflmao:

Barring a muscle relaxant, those rollers are a good idea. This wasn't bad:

Ice it down good bro. 2-3 times a day. No shame in icing after a long session where you are paddling alot. You need to find some videos on youtube for back, neck and shoulder stretches. I have found instagram has alot of good tutorials for movements and stretches for pain in that area. A couple massages will help. Any thai place will hook you up.

Could be a muscle strain, but could also be arthritis in the spine or even a slipped disc with nerve impingement. If rest, gentle stretching, alternating ice/heat, and maybe anti-inflammatories/pain relievers, or even muscle relaxers don't help, then see a doc. If you have numbness, weakness in your arms or fingers, or extreme pain then see a specialist.
