The thing about Epstein Barr virus, same one that causes mono, is that about 90-95% of us have been exposed to it, and thus we carry it for the rest of our lives, sort of like with the various flavors of the herpes virus or the various HPV viruses.

So there is something else that needs to be happening to get MS.

If Epstein Barr is part A, what is part B? And/or part C, part D, part E.....

Would suck mightily if CV-19 later shows up as some sort of causative agent for some other disease, or speeds up development of some other disease. Just thinking of liver and pancreas due to their high ACE2 receptor density.

Of course, maybe this is what us humans need in order to gain new powers, or lend us a hand at tripling our mitochondrial output.

PS
A university friend has MS. Is presently able to control growth/spread of lesions with meds. Seeing the MRI scan of her brain is depressing.

Gene expression is never far from these sorts of discussions but for a bit longer at least, not much we can do about it (other than eat well, sleep well, stay fit, stay away from mutagens).

That said, typical MS onset is associated with:

EBV would explain why hydroxichloroquine works against both autoimmune disease and COVID. HCQ is a protease inhibitor. Viruses use proteases to break up proteins for recombinatioon.

Think covid virus will end up doing something like the EB virus in 20 yrs, Mike?

Earlier I said that viruses use proteases to break up protein in order to re-form them for their own purposes. A couple of additions..... Human cells use proteases for the same purposes. A recent study showed an increase of Alzheimer's plaque associated with a protease inhibitor which is commonly prescribed for HIV patients. So generalized protease inhibitors are not a smart avenue to pursue. However, targeted protease inhibitors seem to be the wave of the virus inhibition future.

Let's hope this research leads to beneficial places quickly.

An EBV vaccine will be a difficult sell, at least in certain latitudes of the globe. Moderna is already working on it with their mRNA delivery.

MS is trippy in that the case of infection along the equator is practically nil, while in the higher and lower latitudes, it grows respectively.

What needs to be looked at is if EBV is somehow destroyed in sunny hot locations, or is it genetics of the people in the regions. Scandinavians have the highest rates of MS.

I think it is combo of factors including gut microbes, which affect all autoimmune disorders. Smoking too (tobacco is a nightshade), along with Vit D absorption. Some people just aren't made to eat everything the earth produces.

Given the low incidence of MS, the side effects of the vaccine will have to be almost nil. Moderna didn't make a great showing with their COVID vaccine. Most Scandinavian countries shelved it for Pfizer because it produced much more myocarditis than was tolerable. I posted several papers on this in the main COVID thread. Suffice it to say, the brand is already in trouble with future vaccines.
