EPS pinhole leak

Rode a new EPS board on Saturday for about an hour and a half, when I got home I realized there was a pinhole on the bottom, in the middle of the board near the stringer, that had taken in water. Initially there were decent sized drops coming out...I sucked water out with my mouth, used the hair dryer to draw more out. Today I did the same but also put the board in and out of the sun briefly a few times, now it just bubbles and hisses a little. Should I be doing anything more drastic to dry it out like opening it up? Or should I just keep doing what I'm doing?

SGV, I had that same problem with a Stretch quad.
a series of small drain holes drilled helped drain it all out, waited a few days then patched up with epoxy resin.

If there's just a bit of water from one session I would get out what you can and seal it.
I'm hoping that it's only a bit of water but there's no way to tell how much got in. It's getting harder to draw any out of the pinhole though so I think that's a good sign.

sdsurfrat, how many holes did you drill? I'm not ready to go there just yet but I'm curious how many holes and how spread out they were.

Kalihiwai, Hi.
EPS boards are so light to begin with you could probably just seal the hole and be done with it. If you patch the hole when the temperature is dropping it won't outgass and bubble.

However if there is any quantity of water in the foam it will discolor over time and look bad. If the board has color it will look worse. The trick is to make a small hole near the ding on the deck on the same side of the stringer as the ding on the bottom. Use a compressor set on low 20-30 psi and hold it tight over the deck hole. As you blow air in the water will eject out of the ding on the bottom. You would be amazed how much water will come out.

sgv, at first I drilled one small hole where I could see water collecting, that worked pretty good but I could see more water in other areas that didn't fully drain. I added two more (tiny drill bits) tried to wick it out, let dry a few days called it good and sealed w/epoxy resin.

Skyline, blood!!
You could bring the board to Josh Cohen (Sticky Fingers Epoxy Repair) or Mark Brog (Soul Performance) to have the rest of the water evacuated with a vacuum; they are both in South Bay LA. Then you could do the rest of the repair yourself.

Thanks guys...yesterday I could barely get a bubble out of the pinhole and today not even that. I think I'm going to wait another day or two, cross my fingers and just seal it up with some 5 minute epoxy. Good to know there are epoxy ding guys in the area, thanks for the heads up rocferd.
