ahh yeah! my dad went with some friends this spring and they are going again next spring and he said this time i could come and bring a friend!

i saw their photos and the surf was about 4-6' (occ. 8' day) the whole time, but is that normal for that season? what should i expect? my dad doesn't surf, he just has friends that do and he likes vacationing more than working, so he goes some pretty cool places.

My favorite trip ever. Better than Indo (I'm regular foot and love Hispanic women). I hear that time of year is smaller, but cleaner with a lot of offshores.

I lived in San Salvador (capital city) for 2 years and surfed all the time. The main breaks in La Libertad, El Suzal and El Zonte are great and there are several other fantastic places to be discovered.

Violence is not a problem if you keep to yourself and don't wander around drunk. IF you stay in La Libertad be inside your hotel before 10PM. There are several surf camps particularly one in El Zonte (great right unless it gets big and then you can go left as well) that is really nice. If anyone speaks spanish in your group I recomend renting a car and staying in San Salvador for a few days. IT is 30 mins to the beach and in the up scale part of the city (Zona Rosa, Colon) there are a lot of good clubs.

April is the tail end of the flat season. The best waves are in May - Sept. Wind is only a problem Aug - Nov when the cold fronts move through the country.

HAve a great time

I always seem to hear two things about that place:

1) Awesome rights
2) Sketchy

The question is, how sketchy? Would it be too sketchy to sit on a point/beach and shoot film of surfing? And is it too sketchy to go out at night at all?

I'm genuinely interested in the answer to both questions, and may well be looking at going myself some time next year...

Maybe you can help Canadasurf?

ES is dangerous but not impossibly so. If you speak spanish you are much better off. IF you have dark skin and brown eyes even better

You can go out at night in ES but I would not do so in La Libertad where Punta Roca is and where most people stay. YOu are much better going out in La Zona Rosa in San Salvador (30 min drive away) it is safer. Still don't get really drunk or bring a lot of attention to yourself because this can cause more trouble.

As for taking pictures/filming on the beach. Risky. I have seen people doing it at el Zonte, but anywhere else be very careful. I would not bring a camera to Las Flores.

To the guy in Whales, how good is the surf there. My brother lives in Bristol and I am going to be in the UK on business several times this fall/winter/spring. Should I be bringing a board, and will the 5/3 suit I use in the great lakes be warm enough or do I need a dry suit?
