Does this mean I'm turning ultra right-wing?

You're going to go to jail >>> thumbs up
"Put your hands behind your back" >>> NO!

Guy sure is eating up the attention on the news though.

Clearly he wanted the attention of the students too. Sure did backfire.

that seems like pretty bad policing.

Cops are overreacting and overusing force way more than they should.

America has a policing problem.

Change my mind.
That’s a bullshit response. Stick to the subject. Did you watch the video? Ever spent any time in that kind of environment? Minus the black kid, that looks like a during/after game meatup outside of Excelsior High School on Friday night circa 1973. Nice tattoos on the mamásota.

Interesting.

How do you think it would've ended if the away team band director had stopped the music as instructed when ordered...instead of what he did (including telling the cops to take him to jail)?

Or scenario two: he put his hands behind his back as instructed?
Instead of concentrating of what bad guys are doing, take a look at what good guys are doing.

Is the cop response proportionate to the threat?

There was no video in the original link.

Again, the issue is disproportionate use of force.

West of the Atlantic. East of the ICW.
Where did this notion come from that an officer's use of force in a violent confrontation must be proportional to that of the criminal's? That's just stupid and a great way to get officers killed. I want officers to win every confrontation with violent criminals. Why don't you Fecal? Are you a criminal at heart?

Remember, the band director was belligerent from the get go. That is what set the tone for the interaction.

"OK, this is who we're dealing with. Proceed accordingly."

The cop response is a product of the band director's physical resistance, being outnumbered, and the chaos that was ensuing.

No reasonable adult is going to behave in the way the band director did. He was already forced into resignation at a previous high school due to anger issues and acting out in front of students.

The overwhelming majority of criminals would say the guy made his choice.

I had more than my share of interactions with police growing up and several arrests.

Never crossed my mind to act like this guy even in my idiot teenage and young adult brain.

What was bad about it, exactly?

Most importantly, would you have behaved differently than the band director and why?
When he said they were “fixing to leave, this is our last song” take a step back instead of escalating the situation more.

I don’t think the directors acted in a respectful or thoughtful manner but the LEO’s should be operating at a higher standard that an altercation like that shouldn’t escalate to that point.

it’s a high school band playing ffs.

They stepped over the line straight away and escalated the situation unnecessarily by setting unreasonable demands and went to physical force shortly after, without any reason to do so.

This is a classic cop overreaction bullshit.

You'll think this is normal because you grew up with that sh!t.

That ain't normal policing.

He hasn’t modified the thread to add the video, maybe ktla modified the article and it was updated automatically? I doubt it. Did you watch it?

It’s a fine line on what is disproportionate, fvk around and find out? If a proudboi pig shot you in the face with the same thing you’d be calling it a weapon.

You’re on your own on this one, nobody agrees with you in this particular case.

This is what gets me, tolerating tugish behavior from cops and holding criminals to high standards instead.

The upside down clown world.

Except that's not what happened...until he had told the officers 3x to "get out of my face".

In fact, the very first thing he said to them when they approached is "GET OUT OF MY FACE!"

The band director, in other words, signaled he wasn't going to comply with the cops.

Right away.

They had zero reason to have any confidence in anything the guy said afterwards.

This is like when the cops show up at the spot we'd be skating and I tell them "Get out of my face" several times, then tell them I'm taking a few more tries and then we'll leave. Yeah, right.

Again, would you have behaved differently than the band director and why/why not?
