Lake swimming in California is the only open water swimming that is outside the food chain. I love it. I never relax swimming in the ocean around here, so I just stopped doing it - spring is for the pool.

Other than a pool, I'm never comfortable in freshwater.

Just seems strange.

I don't want it in my mouth or up my nose.

And the though of leeches are always in the back of my mind.

Can you relate?
do you live with an Indian tribe in the headwaters of the Amazon where leeches are an issue? don't mind freshwater mountain streams, springs that sort of thing but my preference is saltwater...not to offend those with socialistic tendencies here but my pool is specifically saltwater for the very reason don't wanna swim in chlorinated water, bad for the skin.

Lake George in general. That whole region is some of the finest interior the north east US has to offer. The lake and surrounding hills are dreamy. People actually leave OTHER fancy beaches and regions to go to lake George. I used to go for a week every summer and I grew up in a beautiful bay and ocean surrounded paradise

Most of it still very rural- I’m sure there are wealthy hamlets and communities but most of it is still, if not untouched, not developed except in a handful of actual towns. I’d go back just to jump off the cliffs near “Silver Bay”’
Yeah, skip the town of "lake george village," further up the lake is quieter and prettier. the whole area surrounding the high peaks of ADK has some really amazing lakes with some wild lake/boat house setups

It was kinda okay I guess at netted/observed lakes far from any cover in the mid afternoon once or twice as a kid. I've been meaning to check out some of the springs in North Florida's interior. Mild temperature, netting, and pretty clear.

The alpine stuff with no gators and no cottonmouths looks next-level.

I agree 100%

I grew up in a tidal salt pond in the northeast and in reality I know there is a lot more sh!t in the ocean that can hurt me. But I’m still way more comfortable swimming in saltwater than I am in most bodies of freshwater. I chalk it up to familiarity cause there is not a lot of logic to this reasoning.

Do a bunch of open water swimming, the ever increasing seal population is starting to worry me.

Yeah I gotta say deep mountain lakes like Tahoe and Chelan are pretty great to swim in.
Some of smaller less popular NE mountain lakes are pristine, cool clean water with great smallmouth fishing.

I'm scared of shark-type things, even in fresh water lakes....
