Thanks for the support Barnod and others! 5 months ago I bought a glass shop with Michael Baron (MB) of Byrne USA . We have a small tight crew of a few guys who do insane glasswork. This board was glassed start to finish by Toshi who is a Japanese expat who I have known for years from when I used to shape for Steve Boysen. He does the majority of the color work and generally spends most of his days doing his one man show routine on Steve's SB and Cash Labels.

I've been lucky enough to find a home shaping with Pyzel coming up on 4 years now so I am working with Tanner nowadays and he sent me a link to the swordfish thread to chime in. Otherwise I would say it has been years since I have even lurked on here.

I'll try and post some pics of some boards I've been into lately when I get a few minutes.

Cheers!

Just got a swordfish with FCS fusion. I chose FCS fusion because I've had good success with those fin boxes...

Seeking fin suggestions. My go-to for quads has always been Large MF for the fronts and Kelly's k2.1 for the rears and I'll try those first, but since the rear boxes are closer to the rail I'd think there are better alternatives... retodd? Others? :computer:

Resurrecting an old thread. Just got a 6'1 from DK, futures boxes. Any reccos on fins? Picked up a used pair of tyler warrens to start. Flat fronts, 80/20 rear foil.

I’m thinking of pulling the trigger on a swordfish. Anyone ridden this board and what fins worked for this design?

I ordered a swordfish from DK a little less than a year ago, and have gotten to ride it in point surf of all kinds, and beach break as well.

It shines in fast, down-the-line point surf. With its straighter outline, it easily outpaces my thruster.... but it also feels faster than my other fishes. At only 20" wide, its more reactive than my other fish, and you can use that extra mobility to juice a little more speed by putting it into more exciting parts of the wave. I will say that it feels a bit clunky trying to juice that extra speed when it's smaller... but on an overhead wall, it's incredible. It's like a sixth gear.

My experience at beachbreaks is more limited (probably 5-10 sessions), but so far it likes clean, predictable beach break. And you can use its speed generating abilities to your benefit in those conditions. Once it starts to get really section-y, no surprise, a regular shortboard would probably be a better choice.

I've sampled a few different fish the past few years, and this is the most reliable and versatile of the bunch. Happy to have it in my quiver.IMG_0451.jpeg
note: this photo exaggerates how straight the outline is.

I know this is a swordfish thread but I just got a speed dialer from him and I've been very impressed. Top shelf construction and the shape absolutely flies. He mentioned the sword fish when I was in for the consult and based on my experience it will probably be next on my list. Great experience working with him and glad to see his other models are just as good.

Has anyone tried the Machete (the RT version of the swordfish)?
