The embedded NYT article is paywalled, sadly.

The fact remains that despite vehement disapproval from the gloryholers, it's still a funny video. :socrazy: :socrazy:

It's portrayal of Californians as hyper-sensitive idealists out of touch w/the real world is kinda on point, I mean look @ the surfermag political forum....:roflmao::roflmao:

btw, decent 4'-6' 19s SSW swell running down here, not as good as the first week of October but good enough for Doug.. :jamon:

I think the headline of this is backwards, I see more Texas license plates in San Diego than any other plates. It used to be AZ in the summer, now I see at least 3-5 Texas license plates a day. I have lived here since a child in the 80's, my family has been here since the 60's and all say the same thing. What I can't understand is why are so many people from Texas moving to CA? All they do is bitch about how lame CA is, so why the fook are they moving here???

What makes you think they're moving here?

Most of the Zonies are vacationing either in hotels, airbnb's or their own properties (or boats) at the beach.

Wait, so all the weirdos are moving from California to Texas?

Hell yes.

This is great for California.
I hear Gov Newsom mention that most of the homeless (vagrants) in California were from Texas. Whereas the majority of former Californians are using their newly attained wealth to purchase big brick homes in safe Texas neighborhoods. I guess Texas weather is fine when you're living in a brand new bought and paid-for 4 thousand square foot mini-mansion.All that tax money and cashed in home equity is the issue.

Every Texan I know loves California and wishes they could afford to live here, so we get the rich 1% and the losers too. Thanks Texas.

No state income tax, cheaper COL, etc. the data on the in/outflow between the state is empirical and CA is absolutely losing more residents than it gains to/from Texas. CA recently lost a House seat and Texas could gain another if the trend continues.

Don’t get me wrong it aint worth it to me but that’s the logic.

Wow. The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster just can't compete with that sh!t.

Decent interview of the founders of the Church of the Sub- Genius here.

Blurb:
In 1980, two smart, goofy nerds in Dallas decided to start their own religion. Their names were Doug and Steve, but in the grand tradition of charlatans everywhere, they invented new names for themselves as apostles of the deity of their made-up belief system: Reverend Ivan Stang (born Douglass St. Clair Smith) and Dr. Philo Drummond (Steve Wilcox), ready to educate the masses through the Church of the SubGenius about the great J.R. “Bob” Dobbs and to spread his gospel of “Slack.”

Somehow, against all odds, the Church of the SubGenius became a real thing, if not exactly a real religion. It spread well beyond Dallas, capturing the imaginations of a number of important counterculture figures of the era. Devo frontman Mark Mothersbaugh, actor Paul Reubens (known for his role as Pee-wee Herman), Talking Heads frontman David Byrne, cartoonist R. Crumb, gonzo bluesman Mojo Nixon, and more all claimed a SubGenius affiliation. All of them sought Slack, an unspecified philosophical state that the church maintained as its answer to enlightenment.

I see too many of them to just be tourists, and all year round. Mostly look like younger 20-30's aged. I see Texas plate cars at all the malls, grocery stores, oh and several at local surf spots. I just genuinely wonder and are curious why there are so many plates from Texas in a state that most Texans hate and make fun of. I wish I knew. But then again, I see more out-of-state plates in San Diego now than I have my whole life.
